It is an often repeated myth that he didn’t have SEVERAL opportunities in DL/fast races to better his 12:58 PR. That claim has no basis in reality.

Fair enough, more than I realized, but it wasn't a priority in enough years for him to find the perfect race. Look at 2014 which was a non champ year where he did make an apparent effort and had 4x 13:0x I don't think that was his limit. To go sub 13 the pace has to be really good. Had he been a Paris 2012...who knows.

Look at all the fast 5000s in all the years he could possibly have run a fast one (2011-15-ish?)...not that many. The ask how many of those he was actually in...not that many.

He was in more than a couple 5000m races where the winner broke 13 and he did not. He tried several times and could only break 13 one time, his 12:58 PR. If he was getting dropped in 12:56 races why would he have not been dropped in Paris 2012?

And which races were those? What was the winning time? If you're going to tell me 12:58 then yeah, why would you have expected him to run a 12:45???

He had to have been in a 12:40-45 targeted race with excellent pacing and competition with a winning time of 12:42 for you to say he definitely could not go 12:45.

Again, if he’s getting dropped and finishing seconds back in 12:5x races, why would he somehow not get dropped in a 12:45 race?

Rupp was getting dropped in the last lap of slower, sit and kick affairs where the winner might have broken 13 but he wasn't capable at that point of closing a sub 13 in 53. However, he was more than capable of holding a good hard pace of roughly 61s for 5000m. For whatever reason, they didn't chase times with setup races during years in which Farah would go to the front and slow down the pace while the best Kenyan and Ethiopian runners just ran for the win.

I am very surprised Rupp could not match Chris Solinski and Ritz and drop below 12:58.

He had plenty of opportunities.

Many of you were never smart enough to recognize the futility of using INDOOR performances. Galen was never capable of 12:45. Forget INDOOR performances. Galen could run 26:44 and maybe 3:35 during the same month outdoors. That explains everything as Galen did not have the turn of speed that Geb or Kenenisa had. Galen was never going to run faster than 12:55 or so, which was possible but of course his career pb is 12:58.90.

I don’t agree with the contention that he was only getting dropped on the last lap of slow races.

Most of you either didn’t watch Monaco 2013, as an example, or are willfully ignoring it.
