It's still your schools CONFERENCE MEET. It's not like some useless invitational. Take your guys, put them in the 5k, get them some work, get them some race experience, let one of them win a conference title.
All that said, it's not a huge surprise from their program.
NYU, as a complete track team, is terrible. The UAA is actually a pretty deep conference with a lot of good teams, so it's not like NYU can just get other athletes and dominate the conference - their distance running is simply not that demonstratively better. This all basically means that NYU ignores the conference meet somewhat to save face, since if they gave it a sincere effort, they'd get destroyed by CMU, Emory, and WashU.
CMU is a very deep team with no stars, except for maybe Harvey. Emory is a good team with great sprinters in Linton and Greenhous, and WashU is similar with Harmon and Coghill. NYU as a team just pretty much sucks, and the old tired excuses (no outdoor track, etc.) can't defend them anymore.

They didn't. It's an excuse that NYU apologists use for why they never have any sprinters, throwers, or jumpers. Every other school in the UAA, except for I believe Brandeis has an outdoor track.
Brandeis has indoor and outdoor tracks, not sure of the quality of the outdoor since I've only run on the indoor but they definitely have one.

I dont think Abdallah Williams or Schneider need any race experience. Not on the conference level at least. Im not even going to waste my time trying to figure out how many AA they have all together. They've all won conference titles. They have bigger fish to fry. They got their conference win in the fall (along with a national titile). I doubt they really care about competing in their conference track meet at this point.
To the other guy- How do you try to get a quality sprinter to come to your school without having a good track to train on? Or a sprint coach? I dont think McDonough has a lot of experience with sprinters. It seems like they take what they can get.

Ummm... didnt the same distance team win nationals in XC? I bet if they loaded up the 1500-10k with everybody and had their top guys double in a few events they would dominate the distance events. But where would that get them? No use in tiring out their top guys with coming up this week.

While you are right they probably would have won the long distance events points-wise, this isn't the same NYU team from cross country. McCarthy and Phillips, multiple time track national qualifiers, are out of eligibility. Williams has been fighting an injury since xc, and some of their other guys are hurt as well. Hany and Schneider are the only two returners from their national championship team who have been able to get consistent training and results so far this track season.
Why don't you look ahead and see what race is coming up this Thursday-Saturday. NYU trains for different races then many other schools. Can you disagree with them...yes. Can you insult them...no. Apparently McDonough would rather see his runners get into National Meets and get the opportunity to race in some big meets then for them to double at conference and get a couple UAA titles. Ask anyone of his athletes and I am sure they will tell you that they are very happy with his mindset regarding this situation
