I agree, but I've never much cared for the sentiment he expressed in "To an Athlete Dying Young," which seems to undervalue life as an athlete who has passed his peak. I much prefer something like "Terance, this is stupid stuff . . . ." Although his view of life seems rather dismal in both poems (and in many others), the latter reflects a deeper understanding of his own pessimism.
