How? He has run what, 10 previous marathons? Hasn't got near a performance like this. Seemed to pace it well, took the $3000 from Puma. All his workouts suggested 2:3x ish range.
Slight slowdown at the end, but certainly not the legs coming off like we have been before, probably cost him half a minute.
It's a rare case of influencer actually looking into proper training, actually doing better training than he has before and d then elivering a huge PB. I hope he takes this as a huge win and keeps on the path he has been lately (but please, no more Felton on the channel lol). A lot of the other characters in this thread could take the lessons here and apply it to their own running.
Based on his training and recent HM time. He could have done low 2:30, probably 2:29.
As a fellow big unit I'm impressed FOD didn't ship more time. For me there is a clear relationship between race length and my performance degradation compared to smaller athletes. From 5-10km barely any difference, then a bigger jump to half then much bigger difference to full.

So far I have seen Goddard and Hardest Geezer both on insta saying “I don’t know what happened today” full excuse coming soon.
Here is my Runna affiliate link so you can blow up just like me. Worst marketing ever.
Goddard saying "I'm not going to attempt to work out what happened". You've followed a whack training plan and we're given God awful pacing advice that saw you trying to smash a week's old half marathon pb in the second half of a super aggressive negative split marathon.
Not going to attempt or not allowed to attempt because all the fingers point at (alongside you being an idiot for going along with them) Runna and the Runna coach coming up with the pacing plan
Mo Abdin (former Running Channel) on April 12th, 2:37 Marathon:
Ran Boston US in 2:51 and dropped out in London at 25k. This guy is insane even for youtube standards.
Poor planning decision, he probably had a much better time than 2:37 if he was going to do just one marathon, either Boston (US) or London.. He ended up wasting his best shot on the worst Marathon he could pick from the three..
Planning your race calendar properly is as important as everything else (training, fueling etc..)
Missed out on near generational Boston (US) conditions to run in the thinnest field available on an exposed bit of Lincolnshire coastline in the UK.
Does he get a near 7 minute swing with that constant tailwind and ideal temps? Guess we'll never know, but it does make the choice seem really stupid
Hardest geezer is delusional. I don't really think anything suggested he could run 2:35. Just picked that figure from the "that sounds good" box. Goddard is unbelievably out of touch with reality as well.
Terrifying anyone should watch these people regularly let alone listen to them.
I heard Goddard talk about how he can plan his day around running and doesn’t have to work in a clip with Hugo. How does he make money? I know he does some YouTube but surely that’s not popular? I get some of the others being able to influencer it up but what is he at?!
Nepo baby Truett Hanes on 2:32 pace and fading, gonna be hard for his PED blasting Karen of a father to step in and spin this one in the comments.
Truett, my man, since I know you read this thread: Why no instagram posts sharing your result today? Don't you want to let your loyal flock of 85 IQ followers know you've got that dawg in you? LOL, have fun making a weekly YouTube video for the next 20 months for a goal you have no chance of hitting.
OMTIU verifying the new world record, I genuinely despise Will
He really has no shame, he replied to his OMTIU account from his private account saying "thank you for your time in verification so quickly". Does he not realise we know he runs that account 😭
Has this bloke deleted his personal account or has he just blocked me? I can't find him anywhere now. He must know that we're onto him.
He mentioned in the comments of some video that his HM time historically doesn't translate all that well to a full M, so he went for a 2:35. Considering he only slowed down slightly towards the end, I'd say he knows his own capabilities pretty well.

Agree with the sentiment, Andys a hero. From a brief WhatsApp I think he knows he could have gone quicker but yesterday was one of those days we're things "didn't quite click" and he had to resort to being metronomic (look at his splits) rather than a showman firing through last 10k as he might have deep down hoped on a good day/perfect day.
Obviously the result is exceptional, and in a way he "nailed" it regarding a big PB, $3000 and not getting fueling wrong etc, but there's more on the table IMHO. Hes not a stubborn guy, he'll tweak and I can see him breaking 2:30 "soon" which his half time suggests he isn't far away from.
I was one of those Puma athletes not at all in 3 min PB shape (no workout or race had me in same ballpark, probably looked like a PB might be a struggle), so very jealous that Andy had this is a very reasonably executed marathon, and still think he's great, even though I'm green with envy.
FWIW I went for cash, split my fastest half in years (5th ever), wheels came off at 30k, but found some very fast shuffling to nick a 13 second PB (2:24). Puma accountant, as expected, not being troubled by me.

I thought his main barrier were his GI issues which he seemed to have sorted. His recent HM time all his training are a pretty reliable indicator of where his LT profile sits and a good predictor of his marathon potential. And he's definitely got the durability - but maybe there's another factor with being his size.
Agree he's a top bloke especially with all the narcissism on YT.

Goddard posting a reel of him running along Tower Bridge, screaming at the crowd like they’re all there for him. Yet another influencer with a professional runner structure who’s incredibly entitled in the community yet being considerably a pretty average runner. Really hope we see less of this arrogant guy and he goes back to whatever his career was before he found out about running.

Seen Ben Parker of Runna’s one? Made my skin cringe itself inside out.
