Was it run on cinders or tartan?

I actually broke Webb's record, but no one timed it.
Didn't that triathlon kid run 8:29 for 2 miles?
Didn't Chez break the indoor 2 mile record?

Yeah, losing a lot of sleep over this arbitrary list from 5 years ago. Totally.

But, that being said, it's still the most untouchable high school record.
Carter was more than 4 feet farther than Crouser. That is like saying a long jumper who long jumped 26 feet 0 inches could have broken the record at 27 feet 4 inches if he had changed his technique.
HS SHOT (12lb/5.44kg)
81-3½ Mike Carter (Jefferson, Dallas, Texas) 1979
77-2¾i Ryan Crouser (Barlow, Gresham, Oregon) 2011
77-0 ————Carter 1979
76-9½ ————Carter 1979
76-4 ————Carter ! 1979
76-2 Brent Noon (Fallbrook, California) 1990
75-11¾ ————Carter ! 1979
75-11½i ————Crouser ! 2011
75-10¼ Nick Vena (Morristown, New Jersey) 2011
75-10 ————Carter ! 1979
Most untouchable is Carters school record in the shot. Can't imagine a kid from Jefferson doing that

Who are these ubiquitous 'they' you are referencing?
Is Track and Field News the best place to find the updated HS T&F records? Same with college ones?

YES

Felix's 200m is still damn impressive though!
That mark is not nearly as good as it seems. Was done in Mexico City and is not worth more than about 22.3-4 -- very good but not really at the level you guys are touting. It is one place where the Big Gold Book understates the advantages of conditions. It took AF several years to match that mark even though she was wracking up global medals repeatedly.

Um... Who gives a crap, its like all you forgot Lucas 8:29 2-mile which IS 8:26 3200! He would have been 60+ meters ahead of those two.
Reminds me of a song...
Now days everybody wanna talk like they got something to say, but mother $#@!ers forgot about Lukas
....way harder than 9:48!
Either they forgot or maybe, just maybe, they didn't know because it hadn't happened yet. You responded to a post from a few months before that record was set.
bump
How many of the weakest records have been broken since this thread started?

http://www.maxpreps.com/news/AKvaJEaUEeCkhgAcxJSkrA/ten-most-untouchable-track-and-field-prep-records.htmI think the top 6 are real good, as in among those I would heavily consider, but beyond those...
Here's my thoughts on the top 15 TRACK ONLY records (sans the medleys, 10k, 400mH and steeple chase)... field events not included (Boys SP and Boys LJ would be very high, probably PV as well)
15 Greatest Track Records
1. Girls 200m (22.11 - Allyson Felix, CA)
2. Girls 100m Hurdles (12.95 - Candy Young, PA)
3. Boys Mile (3:53.43 - Alan Webb, VA)
4. Boys 110m Hurdles (13.08 - Wayne Davis, NC)
5. Girls 4x100m Relay (44.50 - LB Poly CA)
6. Boys 4x100m Relay (39.76 - FW-Wyatt TX)
7. Boys 100m (10.01 - Jeff Demps, FL)
8. Girls 300m Hurdles (39.98 - Lashinda Demus, CA)
9. Girls 100m (11.11 - Angela Williams, CA)
10. Girls 400m (50.69 - Sanya Richards, FL)
11. Boys 400m (44.69 - Darrell Robinson, WA)
12. Boys 5,000m (13:37.91 - Galen Rupp, OR)
13. Boys 300m Hurdles (35.02 - Reggie Wyatt, CA)
14. Boys 200m (20.13 - Roy Martin, TX)
15. Girls 4x200m (1:33.87 - LB Poly CA)
and the 10 weakest:
1. Girls 4xMile (19:56.75 - Suffern NY)
2. Girls 4x800m (8:43.12 - Roosevelt MD)
3. Boys 4xMile (17:06.6 - South Eugene OR)
4. Boys 4x800m (7:30.67 - Albemarle VA)
5. Girls Mile (4:34.9c - Jordan Hasay, CA)
6. Girls 2 Mile (9:52.1c - Kim Mortensen, CA)
7. Boys 800m (1:46.45 - Michael Granville, CA)
8. Girls 4x400m (3:35.49 - LB Poly CA)
9. Girls 5,000m (15:48.91 - Emily Sisson, MO)
10. Girls 800m (2:00.07 - Kim Gallagher, PA)
I'm sure lots of people will disagree, so... have at it!
A 1.46 800m soft????????????????? What on earth are you smoking. Record was from 1996, second best time was from 1987

Granville's are one of the tougher ones. On the other hand, German Fernandez's 3200m/2M records are the weakest on books, and the first national high school records likely to fall.
Granville's mark averages 55.225 seconds per lap... that's over 8.5 seconds per lap slower than the 400m.
Fernandez's mark averages ~69.93 per lap.
3200m -> 800m pace is usually around 82.325%. The difference between the NRs is ~83.2586% ... and especially given that it's a longer race (more chances for things to go less than perfectly), that is more impressive.
Dividing Granvilles 106.45 seconds by 2 is NOT 55.225, its 53.225 , a HUGE difference

Third weakest? I agree that it's not the strongest, but any one team having 4 HS guys that can go average 4:16.65 back to back in the same race seems rather ridiculous. The 500th fastest high school miler of the past 53 years managed 4:12.4. I don't know how many kids have run 4:16, but the odds of having 4 guys on the same team that can average 4:16 on the same day is outrageously low.
This dude must be losing his mind at NP lol
Houston McTears HS 100 yard record at 9.0 will never be broken
There are some amazing h. s. Records on the books, but to me none of them stands out and stands up so amazingly as Michael Carter's. Seems Ike he was on a different planet with different t gravity.
Course was short
Mary cains records r the best... 424 miLe is off the charts same with 404 1500... also 235 1k not sure if it is technically while in hs... 938 2 mile and 159 800.... and 858 3k...
But pretty sure all done in pro races.... should be separate records for hs only vs pro races run with pacers.....
Anyway only tuohy came within 10 sec of her mile time and most years Noone is within 13 or 14 secs
