Merber sub 4 today at the Armory, excellent performance from a very talented runner. Makes you wonder how good he'd be by now if he had gone to a school with a better program than Columbia's....

He'd be no better than he is now. Columbia has had some very talented mid-d guys in the past, and I haven't seen any indication that the program there is harming them. In fact, I'd say Merber gets more attention at Columbia than he would at a "school with a better program."
I fu**ing love Columbia. Those boys get it done in big ways when they do something - Penn win? Bierbaum winning the Honda Award? Hey There Delilsh? 3:58 is an All-Time Ivy League record. Their women solo'd a 3:37 in the 4 x 4 WTF? If I had it to do over again I would go to Columbia if I were going Ivy and i was big time
4:o8ish HSer goes sub4 indoors as a soph how much better couild it have been. Remember he was learning to steeple as a frosh.
Won the Heps 3000 and ran a 4:02.5 on the winning DMR.
Merber ran 4:12 in HS
Trevor Van Ackeran just split 4:01 for Princeton who finished in 9:37 for 10th place at ND.
Lots of young talent in the league.
Brian Hill (jr, Harvard) won the 800m at the Columbia Last Chance Meet. His 1:49.96 is not only a provisional qualifier, but it's also the 2nd fastest 800m time in Harvard's indoor history. Congrats to him!
Ok, so which Ivy Leaguers will run at Nationals? Any guesses? Will Sharay Hale make it for both the 200m and 400m?

I'm surprised that Kate Grace may not make it Nationals this year, considering how she was All-American last year. Was she injured for most of the season? Was she being tossed in too many OTHER races outside of the 800m by her coaches? Or was it just an off-season for her?

I don't know if she carried any injuries, but I do know Kate studied abroad in the Fall semester, and obviously the phrase "too many other races" kind of depends on how her training was set up. Her schedule wasn't that heavy.

I was referring to when she was racing the 1000m, miles, and possibly not enough 800s. I didn't realize she studied abroad, so that season off could have impacted her post-season run. Then again, this is a mighty competitive mid-distance year on both genders.
Sorry if another thread has been created for the outdoor Heps--I couldn't spot it today (my one day per month on lrc).
Anyway, any thoughts about outdoor Heps (a bare, what, five weeks away)? Now that Princeton's unloaded their superfrosh hammer thrower, are their men likely to be even more dominant outdoors--competing at home, no less?
I could see the Big Red giving the Tigers another good meet, but do they have the guns to compete ftw? (In particular, is Nick Huber healthy/fit, and can Cornell's distance guys return to form?)
In the women's meet, I don't see this year's Cornell squad gaining enough from the added outdoor events that they've usually been strong in (long throws, IH) to offset Princeton's added points from inclusion of the steeple and the 10,000 (particularly the latter)--though I do think CU (Cornell) has the potential to get past CU (Columbia) outdoors.
As usual, directathletics.com and hepstrack.com are supplying most of the info that I'm speculating from (which isn't that much yet, with Princeton not having shown its full hand yet, particularly on the women's side). I'd love to be wrong about my projections, though--any reason to think Cornell could pull off one or both wins?
[I'm pretty sure that current CU/PU athletes don't post in this thread, so I'd hope for semi-objective responses...]
David Smith gonna surprise some people in the shot put this year. Big breakout year coming for him this outdoor season.
Nico Weiler (H) will not be defending his pole vault title this year due to him doing an internship at IBM back in his native Germany. So bonus point to Princeton on that, in my opinion.
Considering how Monique Roberts did the indoor pentathlon in Dartmouth (and placed 3rd I believe), will she do the outdoor heptathlon at Princeton?
Indoor Shot Results:
1 Plummer, Eric SR Princeton 17.64m
2 Powlen, Bryan SR Brown University 16.87m@
3 Brady, Jack SR Harvard University 16.84m@
4 Belden, Bob SO Cornell University 16.69m@
5 Karacozoff, Joel SR Princeton 16.35m@
6 Brucker, Edward FR Harvard University 16.14m@
7 Park, Patrick SO Princeton 16.04m@ 16.01m
8 Smith, David JR Yale University 15.29m
Well, with no Plummer, it might be anyone's event.
Did Plummer go bye bye or something?

From goprincetontigers.com
"Although Princeton graduated three-time Ivy League hammer throw champion Alex Pessala, it looks like they have found someone to fill his enormous shoes. Freshman Conor McCullough won the hammer throw in his first attempt reaching 65.79 meters. Junior Craig Pearce was second in the event throwing to 55.20 meters."
