My 100 MPW Strategy

It's not THAT bad. Yea I had to wear sauna suits.(garbage bag suits.) At wrestling practice. I've lost up to five pounds in 2 hours at wrestling practice before. I've even taken laxatives before. But I wouldn't dip, I just chew gum to produce saliva. But it won't be that bad this week. I think. I'm just gonna sit in the dry heat sauna at Golds gym with my sauna suit on for about an hour wednesday and however long I need to on thursday.

And you're going to have energy to run a decent amount of miles? If you want to wrestle in the winter that is great, but don't try to run 70+ miles while cutting that much weight.

Don't they have hydration tests in wrestling? I thought they did to prevent stupid shit like this.

This thread has taken a whole new flavor now that you're trying to make weight for wrestling... I'll admit I should just stick to running because I don't know anything about wrestling -- but could you compete in a different weight class that doesn't require you to drop 10 pounds?

You're trying to make weight, take a weightlifting class, and run 100mpw for the first time ever. I think you're destined for injury if you don't make a change.

If running is important enough to you that you're willing to make the massive jump from training with low mileage (you're usually at like 40mpw, right?) to running 100mpw I think you should get out of wrestling. If you want to stick with wrestling, I think you should adjust your goal to a couple months of of running 70mpw. That's still pretty decent for high school track and you'll have a much better shot at being HEALTHY.

Does anyone have any DEFINITIVE proof this guy isn't a troll. I think he's played a blinder and fooled a lot of people. He's a knob either way mind.

Ian? We haven't heard from you in a few days... how many miles so far this week? Are you still healthy?

I thought I shouldn't post on here unless I was trying to run 100 each week. Right now I'm just trying to make weight for wrestling on Friday. I already cut 6 pounds. From yesterday and today. I still have to lose 4 more.

So far this week

Sunday 2 miles to football field; lots of crazy speedwork becuase played football for 2 hours.(3 differnt games) And I'm not playing any more football so don't get on me about that.

Monday = 1 hour running during PE. Wrestling practice.

Tuesday = 1.5 hours of running. So 11.25 miles. Also ran a 58.38 400 after the 1.5 hours.

Wednesday = Wrestling practice. Went out for a 1 hour run. Stopped at 30 minutes and everything felt dead.

So far this week I estimate 23 miles. I'm gonna try real hard to tough out some miles tommorow. But I havent ate at all today and I can't eat tommorow. But after I weigh in Friday I'm gonna scarf some food and powerade and see what I can do. I know I can do at least 2 hours Saturday becuase I get to eat Friday.

Again I apoligize for stating I was gonna do "15" weeks of 100 miles per week. I am still gonna run about 9 100 mile weeks. But more than that is hard becuase of wrestling. Which is over on Feb 21.

You are a huge chump for posting this kind of training and thinking you'll receive any kind of respect. What you're doing to your body can have serious negative consequences. Furthermore, it's just not the way to train optimally. Making short-term gains on your performance won't help you in the long run. Also, it scares me that you couldn't handle more than 30 minutes when heading out for an hour-long run. How bad you felt is a sign of what will come. My prediction: you never run more than one 100 mile week consecutively... and the weeks where you hit 100, you'll be running so slow it will have hardly any positive benefits relative to your cardio-vascular improvement.

Cool, waiting for wrestling to end is the smart move. definitely make sure you can eat plenty and rest while trying to increase your miles.

Quit wrestling, man. I was in a similar situation and I just said coach and all my teammates, - F*** you. Then I left.

Now they think I'm a pussy because I don't wrestle like and run but F*** them. I hate wrestling and love running.

It's complicated with wrestling coaches? It's no more complicated than with any other coach. I ran XC and Track in High School while also wrestling from 1st grade up to my Junior year. I come from a town where we eat, breathe, and crap wrestling. State Champs, Almost 100 individual state champions the past 50 years, Nationally ranked wrestlers now on to the premier D1 and Olympic teams, all that. But I realized that my talent was in running, and after a talk with the coach we agreed to let me concentrate on my running and quit the varsity team.

Yes it sucks, but it also allowed me to lower my times, be a top 3 runner in my State, and garner a lot of scholarship offers from all levels of colleges, all off 30-45 mpw.

Ian, I'm just wondering on your plans for running after High School? I assume you would like to continue competitive running, but will doing all these miles allow you the room to improve later, say 3 years down the road? Or will you be burned out? Also, all you able to keep up the 100 mpw on a continually basis?

OK, I normally just make comments about Nate Jenkins and how is poop is used as currency in Argentina, but I've taken as interest in Ian because he aspires to run big mileage like Nate-dawg.

But seriously...the troll-meter has to start firing when he says that a 400 at the end of a training run was timed to the 1/100th of a second! Seriously? Did he set up starting blocks as well?
