I ran against Rodney Giles all through high school in Maryland. He was a phenomenal middle distance runner. He looked good in the '83 Millrose Mile, when he moved into 4th, but then faded out of contention. It's amazing that guys we never knew about like Stahr, Carlotti, and Irish were running that fast my senior year, and we thought Rodney Giles was untouchable in Maryland.
It's springtime and I'm remembering high school state meets and watching Mike Stahr, Smitty and the greats of 1980s NYS compete.
