The style of language use, the simple structure of the sentences, the fact that in about 7 pages of posts I don't think there have ever been three positive posts about the race in a 15 minute period by three different people lead me to agree with you.

To your list, which is very good, I would add that none of those names are the names of regular letsrun posters.

I would say it's because someone posted on a site that never caught these other people's attention before. Let'sface it this is not a very popular site.

I have been reading some of the comments here today and I am really confused with the whole thing. I don't understand where all the unhappiness is coming from. To me it seems like the Mini Marathon (in the spring) and the Indy Classic Marathon (at the end of summer) are a great compliment to each other. I look forward to running the Mini all winter and it keeps me from eating too much over the holidays and such to stay in shape for it. Now I can use the training and weight maintenance I kept up to run the mini towards this new event. I have a reason to keep it up all summer and finish my summer with the Indy Classic Marathon. The new marathon at the end of summer gives me something to work towards after the mini. The two races just seem to be in perfect balance with each other.

I agree with Dr. Smith that this is a fun thread to follow because it feels like they are attempting taking Letsrun trolling to real life. I can't believe some of the stuff that has been written up by the newspaper - makes them look pretty informed.

These people are coming over from the topix thread at indystar.com -- someone posted the link to this letsrun.com thread over there. This person (Tone, Pam, Pete) was banned from posting over there because they continually used different names and posted the same sorts of comments over and over again, slamming the mini, Joel Sauer, and others -- all written in the same exact voice, just like the posts here. Curiously, that "voice" is very similar to the writing on the indyclassicmarathon.com site.

Dr. Smith before you call a News Conference to tell the readers that you have made this (Huge Discovery) that after so many months you have finally gotten a reply to all of your blogging, consider the following, but be aware this may be a bubble burster to you.---You blogged on the Star and posted this e-mail site,now you have people coming here that has never been to this site before. Is this really that strange of an occurance. To you it may be liken to finding Gold in Them There Hills,but to others it's simply following directions. I would suggest to you to change trailer parks and subscribe to another paper.

You know full well there IS a marathon at the end of the summer to "compliment" each other -

The fact that you seem to have over looked mentioning the existence of that race, which has been around for more than a decade seems odd.

But if you are also known as Pete Grimes, then maybe it is not so odd.

Running the "Mini" in MAY is what is keeping you from getting fat at Thanksgiving? Please!

This just hit the IndyStar this morning. I haven't done much research on it, but I will say that the first visit to their website impresses MUCH more than the Indy Classic Marathon.

So we now have the (2) full marathons and (3) 1/2 marathons scheduled for our area. Hmmmm....

It's not really too much, it's the scheduling. The Indy Classic Marathon is looking to be a joke so it shouldn't even count. But this Geist 1/2 is scheduled for 2 weeks after the Indy Mini. They had to have atleast consulted with someone who pointed this out.

Yes I followed the Stars blog here because I read the blogs from the Star every day or almost every day. I have never been to this site before, and neither have alot of other people. Several Thousand from what I'm hearing that has entered their race. I am not from the running community,but what is the running community? I guess I'm from outside the community despite the fact I live in downtown Indianapolis and just happen to have registered for the Indy Classic Marathon despite this being my first marathon.

Sorry, Ethel. I don't have a blog. Never visited the Indy Star message boards or blogs or whatever they are, either. I have no stake in this at all. I live 1,000 miles away and have never visited Indianapolis. I live in a four-bedroom home and subscribe to my local daily newspaper, thank you. I do have a brother-in-law who once developed a trailer park, and another one who lived there for a while while finishing up his degree in electrical and computer engineering and he now leads R&D at a major fiber-optics company, but I digress over your trailer park 'insult' ...

I just find the whole thing fascinating. I do hope for the sake of people who might have already signed up that this thing does actually happen.

Oh, and one more thing. I thought there already was a marathon in the fall in Indy that was a nice complement to the Mini.

Many people will not feel comfortable running a marathon in Geist. The name will not attract people from around the country. It is much smarter to use the name Indianapolis in your race if your trying to attract people in from other parts of the country. Only big cities can be successful putting on a marathon. Geist organizers did not do their homework.

Really? You called them? What number did you call? Where did you find that number? Who did you talk with there? What are their office hours? Did you happen to learn where their office is located (their website only seems to mention a P.O. Box)? Did you discuss any other topics?

Stacy/Ethel/Pete/Pam - I am not a medical doctor, but I do play one on Lost in Space. I do not blog. I post on a message board, but pretty infrequently unless someone goads me like this. It is entertaining and occasionally informative for my running.

The mystery posts on this have got to make it one of the most interesting threads in recent memory.

When the Columbus Marathon changed management, most people in town knew the parties involved (even if they weren't happy about it). I think it's remarkable in a city like Indy (that is generally similar to Columbus), that this phantom race has popped up out of nowhere.

My grandmother live in Indianapolis. I may have to visit her on Sept. 8 just to see what happens.
