keep in mind pension schemes vary tremendously...in some areas it's very very juicy, and in others it's pathetic.

So while cash 'salary' might seem small...if it means a teacher can retire at age 50 with 75% of her salary for life and free healthcare...it's much better than it appears.

I was a teacher in a past life, so I have great respect for teachers. Yes it is a hard job, but giving a blanket statement that teachers are underpaid is just bunk. Imagine, if you will, two married teachers in a suburban school district in Ohio each making $101,000 per year. They get to retire at age 57 and will get 70% of that salary in retirement. Pretty good, no? My wife is a college professor and doesn't make $100,000 per year.

I could list these districts all day here in Ohio. See how many teachers make over $100,000 per year. I'm happy for them and NOT saying they don't deserve that income, BUT it is time to stop blanket saying teachers are underpaid.

So what crazy news we will see before inauguration day?

She got a call from the FBI so let's see. They can't impeach him over this but it will be a strong stain.

For those with PhD's, some are retired industry professionals like you mention. A few are retired professors. Some still teach at both the college and high school level. And some just like teaching younger kids, so they chose teaching high school instead of staying in academia.

Some have PhD's in education and have never worked outside a classroom at all. These are typically the PhD's who teach younger kids.

Your other argument centered around working conditions. I know I probably won't get a coherent answer on this either, but what practical improvements in working conditions need to be made.

Smaller classes would be a start.

But again, Google is your friend here. It's easy to find common complaints of teachers about their working conditions. Many of these problems can be solved with better funding.

That's why many teachers choose to take a pay cut and go to work in a private school.
