NO...once again, I am NOT for free college. But IF we go down that road, then yes, we need to provide the same dollar amount to those who do NOT go to a 4-year college (again, limiting it to those who DO go to a two-year trade school or community college).
Here is why that is different from roads and libraries...Just about EVERYONE is able to use roads and libraries...only the very disabled can not, and then even for them, roads benefit them.
College (4 year) is NOT available to everyone. If we do the free college thing, we are helping those who likely don't need the help as much...those who are more intelligent. This is not fair, and working class people ARE smart enough to recognize that...but again, beyond not fair, it is a waste of money, so I am not for ANY of it. It further separates the elite from the non-elite.
Why not just cut to the chase, idiot. Give everyone $200K when the are 17 1/2 and they can do as they like with the money (college, trade school, or hookers & blow).

CORRECT! We really need to stop doing that. Teachers in their 50s in my affordable Central Ohio area make $100,000 a year, they will retire by age 57 and get great retirement benefits. Now, $100,000 a year isn't a TON of money, but to the working-class guy who makes $32,000, it's a lot, and it's a slap in the face to say these teachers are underpaid, especially when they get the summer off, every holiday off, a winter break, a spring break, etc.

Actually as a centrist democrat I have been a bit concerned that Trump has strengthened the progressives a little too much. Although I didn't mind him destroying the Republican party.

Yeah those people who gave that info are idiots. Most accounts didn't seem verified to me though so not sure how high this number would be.

I looked at the "buckeye institute" database for Columbus City district and there were a few administrators that were making $100k, not class room teachers. Probably it's higher in the wealthier suburbs, but ultimately they're competing for employees so it's hard to believe $100k is the norm.

My wife is a teacher at one of those excellent Atlanta private schools. I'm glad you had a good experience.
Most schools didn't have the resources to do effective distance learning.
And even thought my wife's school has resources that are basically unlimited, the amount of material covered was only about 70% of what they usually get through.
I don't know where you got your information about incompetent teachers since you say yours were very good. But to the extent that we have a lot of bad teachers, much of the problem does come down to pay. Better pay and working conditions will attract and retain better talent.
In general, parents are terrible at teaching their kids. They simply aren't trained and therefore don't know what they are doing. Many realized it during the pandemic and found a new respect for the teaching profession.
