1) Read my response to L L on this -- he was not understanding what I was saying.

2) All of my opinions that need to be backed up by research, are.

in a nutshell, you are saying that everyone would get the same dollar value stipend. Those that want to use it for a 4 year college would have enough, and people who choose less expensive 2 year community colleges could pocket the difference, and presumably those that didn't go at all would pocket the whole stipend. Do i have that right?

1) Keep in mind that I am NOT for free college, so as a result, I would NOT be for ANY of what is stated above.

2) BUT, to be fair and to keep the Trumper-type people from continuing to be upset at being further left behind (which I think is fair and moral), IF we go down the path of free college, it is ONLY FAIR to give those people the same dollar amount, so if you want to call it a stipend, then yes. BUT, NO, I would not give people who don't go to college any money. I never said that and don't get why you and L L seem to think I did. I DID say that perhaps those in some sort of apprenticeship should be considered, but I would have to see the details on that...is it an UNPAID or very low apprenticeship, etc. So, for example, a person who worked at McDonald's would get no money. We DO want people to get educated in some way, either traditional college or trade schools. Our society does benefit from educated and skilled people.

The state paid a lot of money to build a free highway that I don’t use.

Should they pay me cash to make it fair to me?

And the county built a library that I use that others don’t.

Should those others get a tax break or something like that?

How about giving money to high school dropouts since they didn’t get the same benefits as the graduates?

Teachers and nurses are paid well, because they are licensed professionals that are protected by guild. It effectively limits the new entry to protect the wage level. Do you propose the same for "skilled labor" and "service industry workers"? The latter is already shielded from foreign competition, because they are in non-tradable sector, and their jobs cannot be outsourced. (It is also true about some of the "skilled labor" category.) Do you limit or ban automation in their industry? That worked pretty well in the 18th century England, didn't it?

All of the market-distorting "reforms" only reduces the size of the pie to be divided, which leads to more dissatisfaction from other sectors. The direct payment to people based on their occupation would cause even bigger outrage. So the only thing that works is a blanket tax credit based on the income level. It's already there (Earn Income Tax Credit). You only need to expand it. What a boring solution to the problem!

actaully she doesn't carry a gun in congress. She made a political ad *claiming* she did, but after being told that her permit is not valid in DC, she told reporters that the ad was a lie and that she does not in fact carry a gun in DC.

So sure, she could be carrying in violation of firearm laws, or lying. Neither is a good look.
