You aren't a stupid person but that is a stupid comment.
An opinion piece can refer to actual facts and still skew them mightily and not even pretend to give an accurate account of the actual facts. That's pretty much what opinion pieces do.
That piece was bent to make cities look bad. It cherry picked to do that.
But sure, you have feelings that need to be reinforced and protected so do consider opinion pieces like that to be accurate representation of data. You and Sally will feel better that way and that's the important thing.
