I get what you are saying, and I agree that Republicans have damaged norms. "Permanently" is a long-ass time though. I can't get on board with that. The current crop of Republican politicians, supported by the current crop of Republican voters is really bad. However, none of those politicians are as bad as Trump. Not even close. Yes, they are capable of egregious behavior, but NONE of them are anywhere near as bad as Trump. They don't have the ability to get a cult following. They don't have the image (fake as it is) to get away with outrageous behavior. The level of nonsense that went on in Trump's Administration simply will not happen with the current crop of Republican politicians.
OK, granted, "permanent" was not the best word. Unfortunately, that's of exactly zero consolation to me. If American politics (and indeed, simply life in America) is going to look anything like what the Rs have turned it into for even mere decades, or even "years," we're in for some really ugly stuff. And perhaps worse than we can imagine.
I agree with you that no one R is likely to be as bad as Trump. I do think, unfortunately - and as alluded to in my previous post - that you may be underestimating the ugliness of dozens/hundreds of national Rs and hundreds/thousands of state/local Rs acting in ways that are any significant fraction of "100% Trump."
And if we were having this exchange shortly after the election, or even 1/6, I might still be holding out hope that Trump was going to fade and most Rs would go back to at least pretending to be respectable. But we're approaching a year. A significant majority of Rs still lie that there was something wrong with the election. Not sure how long it will last, but for now, Trump has thoroughly normalized lying and trying to steal elections (and rejecting the rule of law, and abusing power, and.....). If Trump dies tomorrow, I'm afraid we're still going to be suffering the consequences of him for a long time.
