No need to bring Oklahoma into this.

Now that would be impressive. The 460 plus pages of NCAA rules in about an hour? But you are right, hell they are only rules. I hope whom ever gets this job approaches it with your attitude.
This way it'll be easier to slip Rupp, McGrath, and Chock past Tyson and then let the blame fall on him when the violations are reported.

How is it that you all think that Pat Tyson who has coaching a slew of athletes who went on to be NCAA Division I athletes and who was himself a Division I athlete knows nothing about the NCAA? It's not that complicated folks. The University of Oregon has a compliance office within the athletic department could bring him up to speed in about an hour.
.
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa. you are cluelss or brain dead. obviously, no clue of ncaa rules.
Hay, i did stay at a holiday-inn express though.

That my friend is funny!
Martin never had that sort of humor...

I coached some high school athletes that went to law school and I have friends that I went to college with that went on to law school. I just got off the phone with one of them and he brought me up to speed on how to recover my loss for signing a contract I failed to actually read. I’m defending myself tomorrow in court! Please wish me luck.

How is it that you..........are sooo stupid?
The Bill's must be really dissapointed
This thread is growing faster than my PR 1500m time..... I think the whole OU thing is a crock of shit. Smith was pinched out, we all know that.
Really who will take over? Are Rupp and Chock going to run for OU or stay with OP?
me think oregun sucky mucho.

It is Martin's decision, and this has been internet fodder for a while, escalating this thing to the point where people are just tearing down everything and making crazy accusations. It has gotten out of hand. Al and Phil, you don't know what they want. So don't point the finger. It is sad that this is happening and that Martin feels this is the best decision for the university, and for everybody, but in the end he came to a decision on his own. He isnt being forced to leave, and he isnt being fired, so that is nobodies fault.
I know I'm a few pages late on this, but if you think Smith wasn't forced out you have no idea what you're talking about. Right or wrong, this wasn't "a decision he came to on his own." Someone deciding something is best, doesn't mean they weren't essentially forced into reaching the decision.
Who gives a shit if he was pushed out? it's college athletics. Think Matt Doherty....Get real and grow up. Smith put together a great team BUT most importantly they were not as strong a distance squad as (put in whomever you want) wanted. Do you think that Dean Smith, Michael Jordan, and pals don't have a say in who gets fired? You all sound like a bunch of idiot crying. This is why track is a 10th rate sport. Smith is gone. Too bad. They should get someone in their who can bring in the BEST distance runners possible to where the colors. Oregon is a DISTANCE school. Smith made them a Track and Field school. It seems that the powers that be want it to be a distance school again. Great. MOve on. I think it's great that people actually give a crap about a track/xc program. Look at UNC...they suck and the Athletic Dept does not care in the least. I'd much rather have Oregon on my coaches back.
Rock on and suck it with some flair.
Everyone knows that they already inserted Pat Tyson.
I'm torn on this whole situation. I'm just saying he was forced out, not that the way it turned out was right or wrong. It is unfortunate things went the way they did, but at this point who knows what the impact will be long term. My biggest concern is for guys like Logsdon and Holts. This is a tough change to go through right at the start of outdoor your senior year.
I have the perfect solution. U of O should hire Randy Dalzell from Concordia/Bend High School. Then all of us yahoos on Lets Run could save time with our bashing. Look at how many pages have been generated on Randy and how many pages have been generated on Smith/Salazar/Tyson. We could get two bashings for the price of one.

When Doherty came to NC, SI showed the fallout from that one with a telling graphic. The dominoes that fell from one college replacing a guy who replaced a guy who replaced a guy who replaced Dean Smith. At least if Tyson comes to Oregon there won't be a chain of coaching moves to follow.
I coached against Martin Smith and he is a good hard-working coach. Although our coaching styles differed greatly, I had thorough respect for him and the success he had, especially at Wisconsin. It would be a slap in the face to all aspiring HS and college coaches if Oregon puts an unqualified person in charge, simply because a shoe company tells them to. It is bad enough that club coaches are now influencing HS runners, telling them not to run collegiately, but to train with them, because they are such geniuses.
In response to “try to find one oregon distance runner who liked him.” I would say, try to find one distance runner on the current team doesn’t like Coach Smith, other than those that are somehow related to Salazar. It’s like Faux Smith Hater says, “at least he (Tyson, if he is the new coach) won't have to deal with ALSAL poisoning the well and then complaining because there is not enough water.
It seems to me and some others that Salazar is as responsible as anybody for the decline of the UO distance team.
Good morning, what a great day to see that I am not alone in being a total and complete jerk. There are a whole bunch of gloating wing Sphinkercavities that are clueless.
If we look at Pac ten places we find that NO OTHER coach in the history of Oregon has placed as high in the pac ten three years in a row than Smith. This includes Dellinger and Bowerman. Bowerman was the greatest. But Smith did a much better job than Dellinger. You can't even argue that Smiths first 6 years weren't better by far than dellingers last 6 years.
We haters stopped good and great recruits from going to Oregon for distance. Then we yelled and complained that Smith didn't have a good enough distance program. We are all idiots!!!!!
I did not like Smith so the facts be damned.
Now athletes from all over the country will want to come to a school that might face the NCAA death penalty in a few years. The elite recruits will follow in droves to come and run for an unproven high school coach. The best in Oregon and the US will line up to run at Oregon. And pigs fly of their own accord.
We won. and did it with class......... Yes this is a sardonic post.

Anyone who cares about the program and the athletic department's integrity, including anyone they might hire, should.
to where the colors.
Don't you mean "wear"?
Oregon is a DISTANCE school.
Try telling that to Mac Wilkins, Harry Jerome, Tommy Skipper, and all those javelin throwers. How stupid.
