Thanks for your thoughts. I'd like to point out that:

-I was commenting on why proponents would draw a false equivalency that doesn't help their cause.

-I wasn't commenting on gun issue merits/demerits.

-I'm not convinced that the repeated use of "lib TARDS" makes a more convincing argument

-it may not matter to you, but I'm a registered Repub (admittedly mostly based on fiscal issues which R's have not been particularly good with lately).

-I'm not opposed to guns but do think we should require liability insurance just as we do for anything we own that could adversely affect others.

We need adult dialogue about how this link develops between Islam and extremism, we cannot deny it exists and the best people to prevent this are other Muslims. You could compare the dilemma that we're facing to what Churchill and England faced at the start of WW2.

Hitler wanted England to be its ally and Churchill could have come to an agreement with Hitler that involved England staying neutral in the war. This would have initially prevented immense loss of life and the destruction of cities caused by German bombing attacks. On the other hand, if England were to allow Hitler and Germany to control all of Europe unmolested, how long until they would decide to cross the English Channel and who would stop them then?

Likewise, taking a strong stance against political Islam will likely lead to more casualties in the short term but, if we continue to surrender our rights and freedoms in the name of appeasing Islam and continue to allow millions of Muslims, who want Sharia law, to move into our countries, how long before Western countries begin to resemble the Middle East?

In my mind Churchill made the correct decision.
