"Defending Canada"?? Well then you just gave what's called a "back-handed compliment" and, for the record, Canada is NOT a "3rd world country". We are a 1st world country, just like the U.S. You are the 2nd American who has questioned and/or referred to Canada as a 3rd world country. Serious people, have you ever been to Canada?? Canada doesn't dole out the large amount of money that the U.S. does on athletes and athletic endeavors (nor "weapons of mass destruction" - GB) because we have different priorities, like universal health care & education, both of which are sorely lacking in the U.S. Seriously, you need to visit us over here. ~ Peace ¥
"as well as THE Canada as a whole"??? Who's lacking in intelligence?!! As for his comments being "sarcastic," sarcasm, like humour, anger, etc. don't necessarily translate well with such forms of communication, which is one of the drawbacks to communucating without hearing one's voice or seeing one's face. Regardless, nothing in his initial comments, nor his response to mine, would suggest that he was being sarcastic. You however are coming across loud & clear .... you're a simpleton! :-)

Which is why it's despicable that the decision to keep them home was made in the first place.

Sheila Reid is pretty tough but I wouldn't call her a weapon of mass destruction.
Wow! A little sensitive about the the whole 3rd world stuff, aren't we? No insult to Canada intended, but it is hard to get the nuances over the internet, and I'm sure especially with Canadians translating from the French! (Again, no insult intended -- you write English very well -- it's almost as good as a native speaker's writing.)
Anyway, I'm all in favor of good relations with Canada, and I think it's terrific when Canadians like Sheila Reid and Cam Levins can come to the U.S. so that they can get an education, and take those skills back to Canada to teach the other native Canadians. American educated Canadians might help Canada become prosperous enough so that one day Canada can afford to send all of its qualified athletes to the Olympics, which will be just super for everyone!

Actually also ran an A in the semi of NACAC and 2 Bs earlier in the year on top of his A+ in the NACAC final...
That's what happens when you don't let your national champion participate in the Olympics. Remember that we don't have too many good sprinters in Canada right now...
If I was able to vote, I would give him a special rising star status...
Good to hear that Athletics Canada are avid LR readers.
Harris and Reid are both in...
What a clown.
Btw: They mention an extra "fitness" test that Reid had to undergo earlier in the week.
What other fitness test did they need.
She ran a PB of 15:23 earlier in the year
She ran a 4:07 PB in June
She won Nationals at 5000m 2 weeks ago...
Now a random fitness test?
What was the result of her fitness test

Ok, got it. Saw it on another thread. She just ran 4:15 in Belgium and that's the fitness test that AC needed to see. The 2 4:07s in June were not convincing, but when they saw that she could run 4:15, they then named her to the team...
Makes sense to me...

She just ran a personal best in the 1500 and commented it was not bad sice she's doing 5000 training.
Wow, a little insensitive .... and ignorant I might add, about your neighbour (and one of, if not the closest ally of the U.S.). I'm not, nor are most Canadians sensitive, just proud, and tired of having to educated some (not all) of our inane neighbours to the south (U.S. ...just in case you weren't sure!) ..... so much so that it was the premise of these (Molson) Canadian advertising award winning "I AM CANADIAN" commercials that first aired back around 2001.
