Finally ran that 5:30 last month a few weeks before my 41st bday. Ran 5:31 a few months after starting this thread
This past summer; road mile with an f'ing uphill finish;
F 40, second of only 2 road mile races I've ever done: 6:33
I'm hoping to break 6:30 this coming summer.

Nice job. I went 5:17 this past summer at age 41. My goal is to break 5 minutes. I'll try again this summer.
5:48.9, indoors. Age 53. Hope to bring it down at least a little, if I can hold together.
Age 61 Ran the first mile of my Half Marathon on Jan 7th in 8:10. I usually run 9 to 9:30 miles. 30 years ago I ran sub 7 minute miles as I ran a 4 mile race in 27:29. Sure hate getting even slower as I get older since I was slow to start with. I can't even imagine doing a sub 5 minute mile; sometimes going down hill my Garmin says I ran 6 something and I am thrilled.
44 years old. 5:19 last mile of a training run on a whim. Ran about 5:07 last year in a road mile. Ah to be cursed with no leg speed.....

No open mile to post. I ran a 4:09.0/1500 last summer.

Only been back running for a couple of months after about a year off. Just been doing normal runs of course. Clicked off a 5:25 during the middle of a run the other day. I'd have to have zombies chasing me to break 5 (I think).
23.
Running since age 54. Ran my fastest mile ever last November in a 5k on my 57th birthday, a 7:17. Got me seeded again in the red zone for Gate River Run. Happy I am.
age 48 never raced the mile
recent PR 5k 1st mile 5:38-then faded
Occasionally I like to finish off a run with on my local track with some timed distance. About 3 months ago, I finished a casual 8 miler which turned into quite a spritely fartlek run with a mile on the track (as a direct continuation of the run, ie. no stopping). So, to answer the question:
4:26 (68,69,68,61) at age 29, 8 years removed from any racing or competitive training, running for fun.
I also finished off a run with a 600m build-up last week, the last 400m timed in 54.9, which was particularly satisfying.
4:57
mid 40s
F43, 6:42 first mile of a 10k race in the summer--needless to say, it was my fastest mile and sub 7 except for the last .2
Now that this thread has been resurrected, does anyone have any suggestions for getting my mile time down? Not sure how low I can go, I would think maybe 5:15. Here's the deal:
I ran my age 40 5:30 off of 27 miles per week in which I would generally run one track workout per week of varying distances, sometimes a tempo run, sometimes 1k repeats, and sometimes 400 repeats. After I ran the PR, I have been doing strictly base training for about 8 weeks now. I havnt run a mile faster than 7:00 and I do long runs up to 18 miles. I have run as many as 40 per week but am averaging around 35 over the last month. This is an all time high for me. I inevitably get hurt from the speedwork about once every 12 to 18 months. However, now that I'm not running fast, my legs are never sore and I feel stronger than ever. I expect to be up in the low 40's per week by the end of February. How do I turn the uptick in mileage into a faster mile PR? thanks

I ran a 5:58 min mile two weeks ago. I am 5' 8'' or 174 cm and 183 pounds or 83 Kg. I started running two years ago and was able to run a mile in 12 minutes weighing 204 pounds. I used to run before getting a bad back injury and suffering from GERD which would always make me uncomfortable when I'd try to exercises. Currently running at 5:20 pace for 3 minutes and doing 4 reps with 2 minute jogs between. Might get it down to 5:45 and leave it there and try to loose some weight.
I have big lungs and a slow resting heart rate, often lower than 45 bpm and I can get it up to 195. I am 41.
I trained for a marathon last year having only ever completed a half marathon and got injured a lot. I am going to train for a ten mile run in two months so I will slow down a bit for a while.
