Was I wrong to take off my wedding ring?

I only read page 1 of this post, and I think your wife is 100% wrong. My husband lost his wedding ring in the ocean, and I didn't even care if he got a knew one. He quickly replaced it because he wanted to, but it didn't bother me at all when he didn't have a ring to wear. My dad never even had a wedding ring, and he was always faithful to my mom, so to me a wedding ring isn't a bid deal.

I think that there is something wrong with your wife. You need to figure out what sort of underlying issues she may have.

The only way I could agree with your wife, is if you had cheated on her previously or previously gave some sort of indication that you had been unfaithful.

I met with a lawyer this morning. I told her the story. She asked me some tough questions. I told her where we stand now. She said I was right to protect the assets until everything is sorted out. I opened a seperate checking/savings acct and put most of our liquid assets in it. I left $500 in both our joint checking and savings so she would have access to $$$. Our credit cards are in our own name and we do not hold a joint one so that is something I didn't have to worry about. The biggest asset is our home and my attorney said that because she left it is considered abandonment so if it comes to a divorce I could very well end up with the house based on the laws set forth in my state. I have dropped about 10lbs but have come to appreciate the storng cirle of friends and family that i have.

As someone who is vicariously living through your story at work, I appreciate the updates and hope everything works out well for you in the end.

Easyyyy cranky pants. I definitely voiced my sympathies and gave some advice. This kind of situation scares the crap out of me. It's extremely unfortnate not only from the whole money/lawyer aspect but obviously because as much as a LOT of people on here have joked around besides me, it's heartbreaking to hear about a marriage potentially ending over something so trivial. I hope everything works out as well. I wouldn't have given advice before if I didn't care.

And for "in a lot of trouble"...don't punish yourself and not eat right :( None of this is really in your control, let alone your fault. Good Luck...

You know...while you were busy having a mental breakdown about the fact that I like to think rationally and enjoy a 1/2 hour of TV every now and then, I was in the middle of a 12 mile run. You should run more and cry less. Shopping would be nice but gradschool kinda puts a damper on blowing all my $. Unless it involves my two favorite men: Ben & Jerry. And who is Mrs. Masterboner? If she went crazy about your ring, wait till she finds out you took the money and set up your own accounts. I have been married only 9 months and i take off my ring all the time. To workout and play golf mainly, but i even forget to to wear it to work some days my wife has never said a word. We both normally take off our rings when get home for the night.

Sounds like you are talking to and asking the advice of EVERYONE, BUT your wife. Which is really the only person you should be putting your effort into right now. Meeting with a lawyer 3 days after the incident? Sounds a little stupid to me. Obviously, you do not care too much about your marriage if you're just going to let it fall apart before your eyes without making much effort other than emptying out your bank account. You should have never gotten married.

Thats awesome that you will be able to keep the house. Not sure if I think that law is necessarily a good thing but it worked out for you.
