Sorry but I just have to give myself props on something here. I hadn't noticed it till I started digging through last year's thread.

So, what we do know is that the regionals course will be easier than in 03/04 but harder than 05. I believe Ridley and Manning ran around 25:40's at that course last year? And traditionally 15th place is around 1:00 behind the the top couple guys, so 26:30-26:40 is my guess at the last qualifying spot for this year, assuming reasonable conditions.
Also, anyone know anything about the nationals course?

Actual results:
1 1 Alex Mahoney 11 5:03.4 25:41.6 5:11 Rhodes
2 Husein Nasiro Sigo 1 4:41.9 26:07.2 5:16 Methodist College
3 2 Eric Hack 2 4:54.2 26:11.1 5:17 Centre
4 3 Tommy Fyffe 26 5:05.7 26:11.2 5:17 Emory
5 4 Brandon Spalding 19 5:04.9 26:12.4 5:17 Bridgewater (Va.)
6 5 Mark Handelman 27 5:05.8 26:15.9 5:18 Rhodes
7 6 Justin Kirk 25 5:05.6 26:20.0 5:19 Mary Washington
8 7 Eric Johnson 22 5:05.5 26:20.3 5:19 Roanoke
9 8 Nick Lewis 12 5:03.7 26:20.8 5:19 Rhodes
10 9 Jameson Otto 6 4:57.7 26:25.1 5:20 Southwestern (Tex.)
11 10 Chase Wilson 7 4:58.3 26:26.9 5:20 Centre
12 11 Jason Parks 9 5:01.0 26:31.6 5:21 Centre
13 12 Vikram Srivastava 21 5:05.3 26:36.5 5:22 Emory
Wasn't 26:36 the last individual qualifier? I really nailed that one, so next month I'll make sure to let y'all know what it'll take to qualify this year as well.
you also made this "BOLD" prediction 8 hours after Home Star Runner did.
You also thought Washington & Lee and Sewanee would finish in the top 5 and called for Centre to "take some scalps at Nationals".
say enough things and you better your odds.
Kevin Peggs, on Sept 15 at Van Cortlandt Park, ran 28:17 which is a pr by over a minute and a half to the best of my knowledge. Add to that Jacobs pr'ing by over a minute at 28:13 and a true freshman at 28:30 and you have a team with some potential.
those weren't pr's, they were just their fastest times at vcp, a course that ran about a minute faster this year than last.
umm... no...even more wrote:

I predicted those back in early August. W&L finished 7th, so okay I was wrong, and Centre beat 4 teams at Nationals (were you implying I thought they'd be top 5?).
I also made the prediction 7 hours after 26:00-26:10 was predicted. It's not like I think I'm clairvoyant or anything...
Actually what's pretty impressive was working?'s pick for the top 7. If you bump McMurry up two spots and switch Emory and MWU he nailed it:
1. Centre (could be upset if Rhodes #4&5 have good day)
2. Rhodes (led by Mahoney's win)
3. Mary Wash
4. Emory (tight pack could move them up)
5. Trinity
6. W&L
7. McMurry (4 of top 5 are freshman, so they will surprise people)
How come no one's been talking about Nasiro-Sigo this year? Here's the only results from this year. My guess is he hasn't been running since last year and went out with the State guys but is not totally fit so got dropped pretty bad, but if healthy he will always be a threat.

So again...
Your prediction came AFTER someone else ALREADY predicted it; you were wrong; and then your definition of "taking scalps" is VERY different than mine. (Rhodes, finish 21 took "scalps", not Centre)
And now... barely into the season you're choosing to ignore UT-Tyler who just beat Trinity and McMurry?? Against the reigning ASC champions the last two years in a row??
Just checking.
If you do your research you would see that at Van Cortlandt for the NYU invite the course ran about a minute fast for the regional preview race... which included teams from the atlantic region I guess it is. That course was run mostly in the flats, did not go into the back woods, and hit cemetary hill at 3 miles The NYU coach chose to change the course for that race because it was the regional course preview for teams like NYU and TCNJ etc etc. The race that Lynchburg and W&L etc. ran in was the invite race which was the regular, slow ass, vanny 5 mile course. So yes, they were big vanny pr's for peggs, jacobs, etc.
I already know that. Look at the times for the runners who ran last year and this year -- take the nyu runners for example. or the lynchburg or w & l runners. They are all much faster than last year. The old slow ass course just ran faster this year.
....poopy pumps.
Hey, I never had poopy pumps before, do they make you run faster or something? Anyone in the South region care to explain?
courses run faster?
what were the conditions like last year compared to this year?
did it rain?
was it hot?
what time was the race?
were you even there?
it was the same course, and this year it was wet from rain just before, if anything the course was more difficult and the runners ran faster
the course didn't run faster
umm... no...even more wrote:

I don't know what's got you all upset. First of all, I said 26:30-40, and it was 26:36.5, how was I wrong? Second, I think we can all agree that Centre could have placed much higher had they run to their potential. People always say that the South teams are the worst at nationals, but with Rhodes' great showing and even Centre running poorly but still beating some teams that shows that's not always true.
I don't think I've made any predictions about this year yet, besides saying 4 VA schools will be top 10, and individual battle is between Flynn, Mahoney, and Nasiro-Sigo (unless someone really surprises). I don't know what the hell you're talking about with UT-Tyler. I'm guessing you're from there since you're upset I haven't mentioned them, yet at the same time I never made any predictions about Rhodes, Centre, or Emory either.
believe it or not, but 12 months of training can sometimes yield improved performances. Just a hunch, but I think that may be contributing to the faster times on vanny.
Jacobs 2006 vanny-29:37
2007 vanny-28:13
Peggs 2006 vanny-30:13
2007 vanny-28:17
yes...whatever this training thing is it seems to work
this is why virginia people p*ss people off -- you delude yourselves all season long and then don't show up at regionals.
look at the top five averages for every team that ran NYU in 2006 and 2007. all of them are faster this year. By a lot. NYU was 50 seconds faster, Hopkins was 43 seconds faster, LB was 34 seconds faster (and falke didn't even score this year), W & L was 31 seconds faster, Aldephi was 55 seconds faster and Catholic was almost 5 minutes faster (ok we can toss the catholic results, something strange happened there).
you can't read too much into faster times at vcp this year. for whatever reason, it ran faster. maybe they marked it differently, maybe the weather was cooler, i don't know. i just know that the times were faster, and that doesn't necessarily mean everyone is that much fitter.

Our team was at Van Cortlandt last year and this year. As pointed out, times were definitely faster this year. The weather was certainly the main factor. Last year: hot and humid with the sun in full force. This year: very pleasant with a soft, cool breeze. It drizzled leading up to the women's race and lasted about five minutes in. Then it was just basically overcast for the rest of theirs and also for the men's. Last year the trails were in good condition, but a little softer than this year. This year they were packed fairly hard.

as for vanny, people are right that the weather conditions were much better this year, but not 2 minutes better.
