Coaches pre-season poll
Coaches pre-season poll
I heard that Nick Welch ran a two mile time trial sub-9 over the summer with Chris Kantos tied securely to his back. Sorenson was too busy leaping over buildings to join in.
And guys... Dirty Jerz is the real deal. Kid does all his training runs uphill the whole way in combat boots.
So any comments, suprises, concerns based on this week's NE poll...keep in mind only seven coaches voted.
Williams women win New Englands and Nationals. Olga K. will run cross this year and should easily be #1 late in the year with the potential to win NCAA's.
Early season she will still be recovering from Europe but is a great 5k runner and respectable 1500. When you add is Liz Gleason, Mallory, and Rachel Asher you have 4 All-Americans. There is also quite a bit of depth for the remaining spots.
while i agree that williams will have a good women's team, esp. with olga the 1500 star joining, you have to recognise Amherst as the clear regional and national favorites. only graduating 1 runner (an amazing runner no doubt, but who finished 4th on the team at NCAAs last year) for a second place school (by 1 point!) they are surely the team to beat
Just remember - I told you in early September. Watch and see.
Trinity College Invitational results
Men's
Trinity 23, Tufts 43

Trinity does look strong.
didn't they also dominate their first race or two last year? And the year before? it is better than, for example, not winning, but not terribly good.
also, what course do they use? is this the high school state championship course? it seems weird that the header says "BOYS RACE 5KM (3.14m)", two distances which are not the same...
no kantos for tufts, not that it would have made a difference. and they have a very young squad, 2 sophs, 3 frosh, in the top 7.
times seem slow to be the high school course, since plenty of high schoolers can run low 16's there.
why are there so many people 18, 19, 20 minutes, this looks like a mediocre high school field of runners at best...nothing impressive here at all
It seems as thought the only thing you can actually take from this race is...why was sorenson not the top guy for Tufts, and whether or not the 1-5 gap for trinity will be small enough at the big meets.
the course was the same as the new-for-2006 CT championship course which i believe was about 150 meters long of a 5k (which is why HS national champions don cabral and adam vess never dipped under 16:00 there)
New polls are out - not many changes
and it was ridiculously hot.
Heard from a friend of a friend that Brock Welch is no longer running at Keene State either?
Hahaa Brock Welch???
I like the name...It has Pizazzz
So it's true....you ARE Brock Welch
Just looked at the polls and noticed the results from the Fitchburg open.
I was wondering who "Forest Wilbur" from Worcester State was - went on-line and found results from 1999 that had him at Framingham State. An eight year hiatus?
Anyone have the story? It is not unusual for someone to bounce around the UMASS system - or for folks at the state colleges to be a little older.
The NE region stinks. Go Midwest! (Men's)
Looks like he's off the keene roster. . .
What teams are racing at Umass Dartmouth this weeknd?
