amazing to think that Dan Browne can run a solid 28:10...about what he has for years now. But it only placed 22nd in a race on US soil. And he got beat by MANY Americans. This is a guy that made BOTH 10k and marathon oly teams in 2004.
USA Distance running is on a HUGE upswing. Think how many sub 13:35- 5k's and sub 28:10's have been run in April alone this year.

That is a damn good showing the U of Portland. They should have 3 in the 10k at nationals with Kinsella.
I do agree that Rupp needs to be drug tested, but at the same time I'm not sure that that will accomplish much since it is so easy for an elite athlete with an elite coach to beat a drug test. I think that it would be legitimate to post a poll on the front page asking whether or not people think that Rupp is clean. I would be interested to see the results and see if action will be taken.
So....I guess any progress the guy made since joining the Hudson team should not be counted? Pretty weird theory...Hey, if his methods work better with some athletes then others, thats how it goes. That is why there are certain coaches for certain athletes...He's a good coach give him credit as well as the athlete who produces the result.

If Galen had run 27:55, does he still need to be tested? My guess is it that makes no difference... For whatever reason y'all have it in for Galen/Alberto and feel the need to put a damper on an absolutely incredible performance....
Why don't we celebrate his effort and support him in his quest to be GREAT; to eventually be an international competitor? The kid is not yet 21 (May 8th, according to USATF bio); maybe he can develop into a competitive athlete on the world scene - and we can all stand back and say that, in some small way, we helped him, simply by supporting and believing in him.
Heck, the kid ran 13:37 three years ago; is it too much of a stretch to believe that he can run 27:33 now?

If ANY of the people suggesting drugs knew how Galen trained you would be A LOT less surprised by him running 27:33. He has been training at that level for a couple of years now and FINALLY has a PR to match his training.
If he ran 26:30 tonight then I might be suggesting drugs as well but: A) he didn't B) MANY runners have run faster than Galen and done it without drugs.
The dude ran 4:01, 7:49 and 13:37 in high school off some seriosuly hard training. Why is 27:33 three years later such a shock to the haters? The 'Al Sal' and drugs argument is sooo tired.
PS - That was also a VERY good Oregon school record that Galen took down tonight (McChesney 27:40). Will he take down McChesney's 5K school record of 13:14 before it's all said and done??? Good chance I'd say...
