What I like about their web site is that every image on there is straight from the Microsoft Office free clip art web site. That always screams professionalism.

At the Indy Mini-Marathon Expo last Friday, where 35,000 people HAD to some, to pick up their race packets for Saturday\'s half-marathon ( country\'s largest ? ) there were quite a few booths at the Expo( which was huge) for various races all over the country. But not one for this \"Mystic Marathon\", right here in Indy... seemed strange at best.
I was curious to hear whether or not they would have a booth at the Mini expo....I didn't run it this year, so I didn't go down to the expo to see. Does seem like a VERY big missed opportunity - not likely they would have done many registrations on the spot, but would have benefited them to get some exposure for their event...
Yet another reason to be skeptical about this thing....
I'm not from Indy and have no interest in running this, but for some reason I find this whole saga very interesting. Every time this thread resurfaces I can't help but click on it to see the latest. Man, I hope a lot of people don't get fleeced on this thing.
I hope the thing goes off as planned, or a lot of people will lose money. They're taking paypal -- paypal for gods sake -- for payment. If you pay now with paypal and the race doesn't happen come September 8, you're SCREWED. It's hard enough getting paypal to refund money on e-Bay auctions less than 45 days old, nevermind this.
The course for this race will be absolute nightmare. Nothing like running 86 blocks with no turns. Expect it to be hot. Good luck.

I feel the exact same way. I don't know why, but I click on this every time it bumps to the top.
I do think it is funny that the marathon website STILL has at least one spot where they refer to the "5k marathon."
They have cleaned up some of the misspelled words and corrected my favorite screw-up the "5K Mile Run." Which incidentally was a correction from another reference to the "5K marathon."
I got the impression that whoever did the website has no knowledge at all about running.
I know it is so very wrong of me, but there is a part of me that hopes this thing just turns into a massive train wreck.
From the "Particiapants" page:
"Start Times: all races start at the same times listed below.
Wheelchair registrants: 5:55am
The 26.2 Marathon will begin: 6:00am
The 13.1 and 5k Marathons will begin: 6:30am "
I also noticed that there are no longer any references to getting 40,000 runners anymore. The 40,000 seems to have gone away.
Since under the sponsor links they are asking for donations of 15,000 items for goody bags, my guess is that in the marathon as well as the "13.1 and 5k marathons" TOTAL they hope to have around 15,000.
That still seems like a lot, but who knows?
I called them and asked why they were not present at the Mini's expo and they told me that they applied and sent in the money for a booth, but the mini sent the check back and told them that the expo was full.
And to clutter the long distance landscape here in Indy even further:
This just hit the IndyStar this morning. I haven't done much research on it, but I will say that the first visit to their website impresses MUCH more than the Indy Classic Marathon.
So we now have the (2) full marathons and (3) 1/2 marathons scheduled for our area. Hmmmm....
As a comparison...
Louisville is a smaller city than Indy and has 3 full marathons (one trail), 2 half marathons, and a new 30k.

That Indy race looks nice and rolly. The geography around all those reservoirs is suprisingly hilly. I ran around Eagle Creek Res this past winter...pretty.

Well, knowing how hard Joel Sauer has worked to grow the established October version of the Indianapolis Marathon, I personally think that these delusional Indy Classic Marathon people deserve the "train wreck" that is coming down the tracks. Honestly, this sounds like a con-job by the infamous Dean Reinke, the promoter who used to live in Indiana. Lord, if this were the case, I hope everyone involved is watching their wallets.
I have been listening to alot of these blogs and decided that anything that generates this much interest is for me. Sorry guys I just registerd today. And from what I'm being told many of you ,who is blogging on this site has also secretly registered.
I never paid any attention to the negative posts anyway. My husband and I always read this column for entertainment purposes only. We both registered for the (Full) weeks ago. We understand that the negative posts are coming from persons having a interest with other races.

Blogging??? This is a message board not a blog. I'm guessing you're some scam artist from the Indy Classic Marathon...perhaps you're the same guy who is organizing the "5k Marathon"...
Take your propoganda someplace else!
This race will probably turn out to be one of the biggest events Indy has seen in years, Bringing in many many tourist. I heard from the city that the registrations have reached over 10.000. I being one of them.

I don't live in Indiana, have never heard of any of the marathons in Indiana (other than Sunburst) and don't have a a dog in the fight.
Even I see issues here.
I think it is awful naive of you to think all the negative posts are from people supporting another race. Even if that were true, how does that impact the truth or falsity of anything being said?
Since you have taken the time to post, what has been said that you think is untrue?
I am curious as to why you seem so loyal to a race that has never been run, one that has had and continues to have obvious screw-ups on its website and which made outlandish claims about getting 40,000 people to the run the marathon?
Kind of makes me wonder if YOU have some connection to the new race.

So you know people who are able to tell you that people who have posted ANONYMOUSLY on letsrun have registered for the race?
what source have you gone to for this information? Magic 8 Ball? Psychic? Does your dog talk to you?
Please tell us how you know this?
Perhaps it was the same person who told you there were going to be 40,000 runners there?

Really? You called them? What number did you call? Where did you find that number? Who did you talk with there? What are their office hours? Did you happen to learn where their office is located (their website only seems to mention a P.O. Box)? Did you discuss any other topics?
It's nice to see defenders coming out of the closet. However, based on common English usage mistakes, claims of having some insider info and calling the board a blog or a column, I'm guessing Tone, Pam and Pete are all the same person.
