Man is Psycho....
I am outraged that you peolple are trying to sully my good name. Don't be jealous because you unable to run the times of a man older than your father. As a matter of fact if I was your father I would put you over my knee. My next race is the Las Vegas marathon. I will see if anyone dares to confront me face to face.
He is running NYCM.

No I changed my mind. I will not be running NYC.

SOOOO.... This old guy can run sub 1:30 and yet just months earlier he couldn't sniff 4 hours. This guy should stop living, and I am willing to bet that he is one of those people who starts out in the front of a big race and blocks the real runners from getting ideal starting positions. He also probably hangs out at running stores like Road Runner sports where you can see the "running expert" employees SMOKING oustide, (that is a habit indicative of good health). He is a creation of the Runner's World jogging culture that breeds weekend warrior filth, the kind of scum that use reflective vests when they run at night. This can't be stopped as long as running is a business, people like this guy will only multiply.
jeez - I was happily unaware that real runners don't wear reflective vests. What a loser I am!
Oh, come on, William. Forget NYCM and Vegas, be a man and run a p2p course like Big Sur.

or BOSTON... lots of 'sights to see' on that course
yes you are a loser.
according to marathonguide.com, WiJu did run Boston a few years ago, but even I found the mass transit there decades ago.
how bout St George? (scooters not allowed)

Nice. Try running in a town where rednecks don't realize people actually run in the dark, has no sidewalks (or even shoulders), and where a few people have actually been hit by cars. I avoided a reflector for years until I almost got nailed coming over a hill at 6am. That changed my mind real quick.
Except for missing the 20 mile split, he either legitimately ran that time in NY, or has gotten abit sophisticated at nailing the proper splits (obviously Chicago this year is fishy).
10k_ 0:46:41 7:30 pace
Half 1:30:47 6:55 avg. (6:23 pace from 10k)
42.2 3:07:58 7:10 avg. (7:25 pace from half)
Again, NY has a video checkpoint at mile 20 (and others) and I don't know why he hasn't been DQ'd. Perhaps he figured out where they all were too- or perhaps he actually ran 3:08.
NYRR is well aware of him...go check the WiJu message board. Someone from the club posted.
WiJu has bought/sold his bibs.
Anyone who believes any of his times are legit from 2002 to present is only fooling themselves.
I'm curious how WiJu cuts the courses. It looks like at Chicago, he did it several times, which means he risked several chances at getting caught. Does he stop running near the curb and bend down and tie his shoe and then stand up in the crowd on the side of the road? Does he loiter around an aid station until no one notices him assimilating into the crowd (maybe by covering up his bib with his purple jacket at that point)?
Also, I'm wondering why he hasn't been caught more often with his wildly erratic splits at Chicago and other races as mentioned above. It seems like all the splits from a race (especially like Chicago with splits every 5K) could be run through a program (even something simple like an excel spreadsheet) to highlight erratic splits.
Also, it seems like marathon officials should immediately scrutinize anyone who missed a split.
Also, shouldn't marathons publicize (or at least circulate a list) whom they've caught cheating (whether cutting courses, or whatever) so those people could be scrutinized more closely when they register for other marathons?
Also, I shouldn't say also so much.

In cold weather the jacket is used to conceal the bib, zip it up when preparing to leave the course, unzip it just prior to emerging from the crowd.
Warmer weather, got me how he does it.

I personnally know this person. He is not a bad guy. I told him about this thread and it upset him very much. He is not "cheating". He explained to me that he likes to travel and run in the big races but just does not want to do the whole distance. So, he reviews the courses and selects an alternate route that allows him to see most of the course and sights. He is doing this as a way of healthy sight seeing. It also allows him to meet all different kinds of runners both fast and slow. As far as taking prizes away, he never EVER even considered that cash or other prizes are being given out for the kinds of times he is running and has NEVER claimed any prizes.
As much as he enjoys the part about going through the finish line he will no longer be going through the shoot.
Thanks a lot for spoiling a good guys fun. Way to go LetsRun crowd.
Katman, you've been trolling the running message boards for at least 5 years now, why do you do it? Everytime you end up getting blocked, what's the point? I guess it's like WiJu, just needs the attention.
I've spent way too much time looking up his splits from a number of races. He's run Chicago dating back several years with similarly erratic pacing. My favorite dates back to the 2003 Mercedes Marathon.
Picture this. Our man William gets off to a bad start early in the race, trailing fellow age grouper Barry Ege by nearly six minutes at the 10k mark recording a 49:14, but is not discouraged. Jerena puts in a surge covering the next 20k in 1:09:11. This mighty effort not only makes up the six minute deficit on Mr Ege, but leaves him over thirteen minutes in his raging wake. So high was Jerena flying through these miles that his chip failed to register at three intermediate points. Alas, our hero can not sustain this pace (about three minutes off the USATF 20k age-group record and 5 minutes faster than eventual race winner Chuck Engle's split), apparently bonking heavily in the last 12.2 km of the race and slowing to an agonizing 9:06 average pace in that interval. Clearly 12 miles of 5:35 paced running has taken a toll. Jerena remains stoic, soldiering onward, as Mr Ege with a remarkably even paced effort passes less than 400 meters from the finish to take the age group win and the thirteenth spot in the race while Jerena comes home in 3:07:26. Jerena's only consolation is that this time easily qualifies him to run Boston, but, so spent was he by that massive 20k surge, he can manage but a 3:49:20 finish in that (point-to-point) race.
