Someone mentioned Kara was 9th at Footlocker as a sophomore in high school and beat Carrie Tollefson at State in Minnesota, plus she is a year or two younger so the high end talent was there all along since she was young.

that is a 5-10 second improvement for paula, not a two and a half minute 10k improvement, nice try though
Dude- who gives a crap! If you think what happen 11 years ago at footlocker and Minn. state has anything to do with this discussion your off. Come up with something more recent to prove you point!
I have to agree here... Teddy Mitchell, that guy was 9th at footlocker(then kinney) (just like k.goucher). that guy was a ncaa track champ (just like k.goucher). what if he did nothing for five years and then ran 27:19 out of no where. He would be acused of being a cheater. But not Teddy- he would only COACH a cheater, not do it himself.
Kara dominated NCAA cross in 2000 she clearly has significant talent. Mitchell won a slow tactical track 10k, which while impressive is much easier than winning a CC title. Comparing what Kara did to Mitchell running 27:19 is not helpful, she would have had to run about a minute faster for it to be an equal comparison. So if and when she runs 30:15 I'll be suspicious.
Mercier scoring tables show 27:19 for a male is equivelant to a 31:18 for a female.
actually it is an apt comparison since it shows that people can flatline. comparing her 10000m time is a bit silly since she ran it so long ago when she had injury problems. finally her 10000m time is inline with her 5000m times.
Kara Wheeler 15:28 as a college sophomore at Mt. SAC. When she is healthy she is as good as anyone. Just ask Carrie Tollefson. Oh wait, you're a nobody.
Kara runs so well that she gets a 100+ post thread on Let's Run debating whether she cheated or not!
She's finally made it!
Congratulations, Kara! You must be proud!
Besides the fact that they didn't even race each other at State that year b/c Dawson-Boyd was in single A and Duluth East was in Double AA, Carrie had the better time anyway, 11:49 to 12:02. The only time they ever hooked up head-to-head at State (other than 91) was in 94 when Carrie was a senior and Kara a junior and here's what happened.
1 Carrie Tollefson, 12 14:09.2
2 Kara Wheeler, 11 14:10.5
3 JoAnna Deeter, 11 14:36.1
4 Amber Affeldt, 12 14:45.5
5 Amy Hill, 11 14:45.8
6 Heather Anderson, 11 14:47.4
7 Rachel Hasser, 12 14:48.7
8 Jena Kluegel, 9 14:50.9
9 Linn Schulte-Sasse, 12 14:51.7
10 Beth Rautmann, 8 14:55.0
carrie is HOT
kara is NOT
In 2000 she ran 15:28 and 4:12.
In 2005 she ran 15:17. If a woman runs 15:17, I can see her running 31:40's or so. In 2006 she runs 15:08, so to me that opens the door to 31:teens.
That progression doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
So why basically nothing for 4-6 years??????
Regina Jacobs flatlined for a while, too, remember.
did you see the post on radcliff - she flatlined. ever hear of repeated injuries?
Does Kara take thyroid meds too?

Congratulations to Ms. Goucher on the excellent 10km race in Helsinki. If she plans it right she could possibly break the American record next year.
Jaosn
Is that like a sex joke?
Never heard of any "Radcliff". What magically made all those injuries disappear? Why couldn't it be recovery-in-a-bottle?

I don't see 4-6 years with nothing. I see 4:11 in 2003. Then I see a bad year in 2004. Then I see a strong year in 2005 and an even better year in 2006.
I will also say that Adam Goucher is not some unknown entity suddenly running well out of the blue. I remember him at Colorado winning the NCAA cross country race at Rim Rock and that dude showed a lot on that day. He showed toughness, speed, and endurance.
I can't say that these athletes are clean for certain (only they know for sure), but I think that when you look at them in the context of their whole careers that you are under estimating them to surmise that their current performance levels are unreasonably exceedced by their past marks. I would say quite the contrary. I would say that looking over their whole careers leads credence to the idea that they are fully capable of running what they have run - and faster - as clean, hard working, talented, and inspired athletes.
These guys are useless jealous dickholes. Nobody would take them seriously. Congrats to the Brojos for letting yet another thread turn into a frenzy of trashing a very nice American runner.
Way to go Wejo and Rojo!! By turning a blind eye to libel yet again it shows that you guys really know how to support American distance running.

Yes you are right. She must have found a method of doping that heals injuries!!!
