North Carolina governor-elect Josh Stein who was previously the NC Attorney General. He just easily won the governorship in a state that Trump won handily.
Or if you're looking for someone younger, Jeff Jackson who just won the NC race for attorney general. He's only 42, was previously a congressman but his district was redrawn (ie gerrymandered) to become a red district, so he ran for and won the AG spot. He served in the Army in Afghanistan and is still an officer in the Army reserves. He's got a popular, common sense social media presence as well and is very relatable to non-elites.
Jeffrey Neale Jackson (born September 12, 1982) is an American politician, attorney, military officer, and North Carolina attorney general-elect serving as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 14th congressional distr...
No, she can’t. Do you expect her, in her free time, to put up a cleanup proposal, prepare a budget and get it approved?
Do the leaders in her district, even like her? I’m thinking if she put her nose in other peoples’ business in her district, she would be as welcome as a turd in a punch bowl.
Here home district is a sh*thole. She doesn't need a budget or an approval of her budget. She puts out some fliers and say," hey come this weekend and we can clean up some of the mess." She can't do that? Oh - she is too uppity for that? She would instead want to have brunch at the Four Season Manhattan? got it!
I forgot about Wes Moore. He'd be great. Young, likable, a military vet, etc.
The Harris loss seems like an epic beatdown today, but it won't take much for those middle voters to flip back to the Democrats if they don't like what the Republicans are selling. Wisconsin has been flipping back and forth with just 30k votes making the difference. Won't take much to flip that back if things go south.
Trump's personality and way of speaking have allowed him to connect with a disparate group of people, in ways others cant. There's zero chance a person like JD Vance could carry that mantle forward and win in 2028 if there's an economic downturn. Vance lacks the personality, and he just comes off awkward and fake. Trump is a generational talent when it comes to connecting with people.
Trump does have an uncanny ability to connect with people, but it only works with about 25% of the population. The rest of the people that voted for him, don’t particularly like him, but they would never vote for a democrat.
There are plenty of people out there who switch parties with regularity. I can remember tons of Obama voters who voted for Trump, which made little sense to me, but whatever. Same thing this time around. Plenty of people who voted for Biden in 2020 flipped back to Trump.
About 25% of each side is steadfast and not moving. The middle is up for grabs with regularity, but the Dems have to put up a candidate is not female, not gay, not a liberal California guy. That stuff just isn't working.
this was supposed to be a dem-only discussion and you're just being an abusive ***** with nothing but opinions and insinuations at people without any backing data
you named yourself after a 1984 character and just pick fights online. how'd that work out for you?
please leave NOW
Alright, I'll leave you to continue completely failing to understand where the US population is at.
There's plenty of data and news stories to back up my characterization of Newsom.
I'm waiting for this data, captain scientific method. Gavin didn't sell cars, he owned / ran a chain of winerys / restaurants thereof. He was re-elected with 59% of the vote in 2022.
I like how you ignored my other actual facts that present Mayor Pete as a more centrist candidate given his vet and biz mgmt background. And Wes Moore has a vet background as well and worked as an investment bank at Deutsche and maybe has a bit of The Wire in him.
Way too early to pose this question. The party first has to understand why it received such a drubbing. Then it must decide what sort of party it is. Having worked, with growing reluctance, on every campaign since 1976, I can say that the party has become ever more oriented towards educated elites, treating the need to court working class voters as a sort of unpleasant penance. My own view is that Harris ran a defensive, standoffish, cold campaign, and missed many opportunities connect with voters outside the elite bubble. How could the party have made so many unforced errors? Answer these questions and then begin thinking about a field of candidates.
Dem here. Personally I'd like to see a candidate that seeks out the middle ground. Hell, I don't care if they are Republican or Democrat, if they were just moderate I'd vote for them.
Contrary to popular belief, there are a large number of Dems like myself that are exhausted by the dogmatic identity politics of the far left and christo-conservatism of the far right.
We just want affordable healthcare, good public schools, common sense gun laws and freedom to control our own bodies.
The middle is up for grabs with regularity, but the Dems have to put up a candidate is not female, not gay, not a liberal California guy. That stuff just isn't working.
That makes sense from a game theory perspective. So then you're down to like Wes Moore and Andy Beshear at this point, 3 years ahead of a real conversation because who knows. The Hick maybe would have been elected in 1860. Senators are rarely elected and it has to be something like Obama coming out of the Chicago machine like a bat out of that Meat Loaf song and giving the 2004 speech. The only mayor that has ever been elected straight out of that office is Grover MF Cleveland. He spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions.

The fact that you think I meant Newsom literally sold used cars says everything about your politics... lol.
59% of the vote in California means 30% of the vote in a general election. Normal people do not like sleazy elitist hypocrites like Newsom. He has no chance in the swing states.
I disagree that Pete is a centrist but it's irrelevant. Black men and Latino men will not turn out vote for a gay man. Without black men and latino men turning out the Democrat loses. See Tuesday if this concept still confuses you.
I have no idea who Wes Moore is. The fact that you like Newsom and Wes Moore and think Mayor Pete is a "centrist" strongly suggests that he's no where near the middle either.
Kam ran as a L.A. politician. L.A. is bustling, thriving, the sports, entertainment, techonology, science leader of the World. She didnt realize outside HI, CA, OR, WA, CO, NM the rest of the USA is in shambles. Now she knows. Same here.
Gavin Newsom or a dark horse Mike Johnston. I'm very certain Gavin didn't run because it wasn't his turn and some writing was on the wall. The country is not near ready for a woman, Mayor Pete or Jared Polis, and may never be. Maybe AOC could be a VP with Gavin or Mike
Gavin doesn't have a shot in hell.
You people need to move to the middle not further to the left if you want to win.
The country is more than ready for the right woman. Harris and Clinton lost because they're terrible candidates not because they're women.
Other than good hair he has nothing to offer. He runs the state with the best natural resources in the country yet people and businesses are leaving and the state becomes a bigger s-hole by the day.
Surprised nobody has mentioned him yet, but I think Andrew Yang would have appealed across the board this election with his messaging on AI and economics.

If you have no idea who Wes Moore is, then I would assume you would think Gavin actually sold used cars. I want to subscribe to your newsletter and heck, have you come over and X my sister.* Have you run / sold a company for profit or worked at a top-five management consulting firm? You'll ignore that question in your response.
*Mods that is a softly modified quote from Full Metal Jacket by Stanley Kubrick in 1987 this is a very antagonistic poster making for a degraded experience on LetsRun

This. As a conservative, I won't weigh in on who Dems should choose, but Harris had a clear lead after the DNC convention and proceeded to blow it. I predict that she will disappear politically.
If she runs in the primaries, she won't even get into the double digits in support.
Surprised nobody has mentioned him yet, but I think Andrew Yang would have appealed across the board this election with his messaging on AI and economics.
unfortunately i do not think he would have any shot of winning given, ahem, demographics, but would make a great cabinet member / FTC chair / whatever the CTO-ish role is
I don’t want to go through the entire thread. Has Elizabeth Clor been mentioned? She would be my pick. Of course 2028 is thousands of running outfits away.
