A Reuters investigation of a document trove found in an abandoned Russian command post in Balakliya, Kharkiv Oblast, supports ISW’s longstanding assessments about the poor condition of Russian forces. ISW has long assessed th...
Again, bombing power plants in Lviv does nothing for the poor Wagner recruits getting slaughtered along the front line in Bakhmut. It just ups the bill that Russia will end up paying, increase the liklohood of Russians getting hanged for war crimes, and encourages NATO to provide more and more advanced / capable weaponry.
It sure does a lot. They population totally desperate and it's just one week of partial blackouts
in 2 months they will be ready for any kind of peace whatever it takes just to get electricity back

The people I’ve spoken to in Kyiv say the opposite - that it has galvanized support for Zelensky and against Russia. But, keep arguing for war crimes.
In his speech today Putin stated that the “single real guarantee of Ukrainian sovereignty” can only be Russia, which “created” Ukraine. Putin’s understanding of history is almost as bad as Lolly’s and Carmine’s. Kyiv predates Moscow by a thousand years.
Then, Putin reiterated that it is a “historical fact” that Ukrainians and Russians are fundamentally “one people” that were wrongly separated into “different states.” Good, then Putin should step down and let Zelensky and Ukraine rule all of Russia. It would immediately right this historical wrong. Putin and Russia seem very eager to commit war crimes against Ukrainians, despite them being “one people” with Russia.

It didn't galvanize anything.
Support of this war in Ukraine like support for LGBT in the USA - extremely small and extremely loud
I have mother in law in Odessa. They just want war stop and children back to school - they don't care who rules - they want their electricity back. If it means Russia - they are OK

Your mother-in-law's alleged indifference aside, Ukrainians seem to be willing to risk their lives and die by the tens of thousands to defend their country against Russia's military invasion. I don't think they want you Russian scumbags occupying their country, and they seem extremely motivated to get you out.

Stop the pom pom waiving. Biden, back in the spring wouldn't allow President Z to negotiate an end to the Conflict. More than once pro-Ukrainian posters have responded to me they expect Putin to back down as did Brezhnev & Gorbachev. I don't believe Brezhnev knew the level of Israeli & U.S. involvement. Many in now former Soviet Union believe U.S. flipped Gorbachev. A negotiated deal is how this is going to end. Many pro-Ukrainians who post on this thread, consider themselves intellectuals but they foolishly hold onto a belief of Russian Unconditional Surrender. Ignorant chicken hawks.

Here you go lying again, you don't know anybody in Kiev. West-Ukraine is finished. Nothing is more important to the people than comfort and it will take a month or two of freezing and having no electricity for people to begin craving normality and pressure Kiev into submission. People in Kiev will eventually take their own comfort over having Donbas stay as part of Ukraine. Especially since nobody in Donbas wants to stay in Ukraine anyway.
The question is who will Zelensky listen to, his own people, or the British and the US intelligence :)

Many in former Soviet Union are idiots.
None of us expect an unconditional surrender and most of us agree some negotiations will need to take place to resolve important questions such as: how many billions of dollars will Russia pay in reparations, who in the Russian administration will hang and who will spend life in jail, and will Russia be the laughingstock of the world for the next ten years or the next 50 years?
On Thursday, POLITICO reported that while services like YouTube and DirecTV have booted off Russian state propaganda networks, the Kremlin is still pumping millions of dollars into the U.S. media through other means."Between...
Today marks the anniversary of Italy's (attempted) invasion of Greece in 1940. There are some nice parallels between Italy's invasion and Russia's flailing campaign in Ukraine. Unfortunately for Russia, they don't have any friends to call on to bail them out when get driven out of Ukraine.
Italy's invasion of Greece, launched with the divisions of the Royal Army based in Italian-controlled Albania, was a fiasco marked by low morale and poor planning: the Italians encountered unexpectedly tenacious resistance by the Hellenic Army and had to contend with the mountainous and muddy terrain on the Albanian–Greek border. By mid-November, the Greeks had stopped the Italian invasion just inside Greek territory. As the British bombers and fighter aircraft struck Italy's forces and bases, the Greeks completed their mobilization and counter-attacked with the bulk of their army to push the Italians back into Albania – an advance which culminated in the Capture of Klisura Pass in January 1941, a few dozen kilometers inside the Albanian border. The defeat of the Italian invasion and the Greek counter-offensive of 1940 have been called the "first Axis setback of the entire war" by Mark Mazower, the Greeks "surprising everyone with the tenacity of their resistance".
(Replace Italy with Russia, Albania with Belarus, Greece with Ukraine, and Britain with NATO).
The Greco-Italian War (Greek: Ελληνοϊταλικός Πόλεμος, Ellinoïtalikós Pólemos), also called the Italo-Greek War, Italian Campaign in Greece, and the War of '40 in Greece, took place between the kingdoms of Italy and Greece fro...

Reading CWW16 post just reminds me of his claim that he is an American and never left the country until he was in the armed forces. Nearly every post has several "tells" that his claim is false. A quick glance revealed about five in the post you quoted.
It's been a concern that the active conflict could escalate beyond the borders of Ukraine, but attacks on commercial space borne platforms would be a whole different level. "Quasi-civilian infrastructure may be a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike," Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the foreign ministry's department for non-proliferation and arms control, was quoted as saying by TASS. "We are talking about the involvement of components of civilian space infrastructure, including commercial, by the United States and its allies in armed conflicts," Vorontsov was quoted as saying at the United Nations.
It's been reported that Ukraine uses SpaceX's Starlink to extend the operational range of their drones and that Ukraine's intelligence services use satellite imagery from commercial satellite services.
One of the few things the Russians have some competency with is space operations. RU has tested anti-satellite weapons and did a test just the other day. The main problem with blowing up a bunch of satellites is that you then send a big debris field into orbit. The international space station had to scramble to avoid the debris field from RU's most recent anti-satellite test. A major attack on Starlink and other commercial satellites would create a significant debris field that would invariably take out some other satellites. RU would have some splaining to do if its satellite attack resulted in China losing several telecom satellites or, worse, some of its spy satellites. And if you want to get the West unified against RU, a loss of internet and cell service due to a telcom satellite getting blown up would have Americans booking flights to E. Europe to join UA forces to fight Russia.
RU is not going to blow up satellites. They are not going to use nukes. They are just trying to scare the West as much as they can to try to get Tucker Carlson/Aaron Mate "anit-war" crowd foaming to try to break unity over support for Ukraine. Russia knows that the only way it can win in Ukraine is if the West abandons Ukraine. So, you are going to get a steady stream of threats and disinformation from RU propagandists designed to try to sow division in the West.
And almost on cue, today RU went back to their claim that UA has biological weapons.
Putin gave a long and idiotic speech in which he showed a rhetorical alliance with Western anti-Ukraine sentiments. Putin claimed that RU is the victim of NATO aggression and that the West is in the way of peace in Ukraine. But, for domestic audiences, he also said that Ukrainian people are actually Russians and only Russia can guaranty peace in Ukraine. And this is the root of Putin's Ukraine campaign. He ascribes to a very long cultural and political history of Russian chauvinism against Ukraine.
On the battlefield, RU forces no longer have any capacity to mount a real offensive campaign. RU forces are using mobiks to launch attacks solely for the purpose of trying to find where UA forces are located to then try to push them back with artillery barrages. But this is purely a defensive operation in order to hold the line and keep UA from pushing any further to the East. But UA has been able to persist and is making progress towards Svatove and Kreminna and is setting the stage for a battle to finally take Kherson (the west bank of the Dnipro). In Kherson, it seems like RU only wants to keep UA on the west bank of the Dnipro and is going to sacrifice a lot of personnel to do that. That is because once Ukraine crosses the Dnipro, there is not much more than farm land between UA forces and Crimea. UA would then be able to cut off Melitipol and Mariupol from Crimea.
RU is clearly just trying to run out the clock in hopes that it can slow UA advances enough to have Western support erode to either force Ukraine to a peace deal or deprive UA of weapons and allow RU a chance to push back and reclaim territory lost in UA's counterattack. If Western support does not waver, there may be more major collapses of RU positions into the winter. I would expect Kherson (west bank) to fall in the next week or two and then a major advance on Severodonetsk going into the winter.

Looks like Ukraine successfully struck Russia’s naval base at Sevastopol, damaging at least one Russian frigate. Russia says they will commit additional war crimes far from the frontline while their “soldiers” continue to be killed en masse.
