Republican strategy memo advises GOP campaigns to blame China for coronavirus

A new Republican strategy memo advises Senate candidates to blame China for the coronavirus outbreak, link Democrats to the Chinese government and avoid discussing President Trump’s handling of the crisis.

The 57-page memo, drafted by a D.C.-area GOP strategist, was distributed to campaigns this month by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. It’s existence was first reported Friday by Politico.

If asked whether Trump is at fault for the nation’s unpreparedness as the virus spread, the candidates are told, “don’t defend Trump, other than the China Travel Ban — attack China,” according to the memo, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post. The memo urges Republicans to acknowledge that U.S. public health officials “acted late,” then say that is China’s fault.

Birx seems to agree with the IHME model more or less.

"Deborah Birx, the response coordinator for the White House’s coronavirus task force, said on Saturday night that she expects the number of coronavirus deaths in the United States to go way down by the end of next month.

“We believe that both hospitalizations, the ICU need and frankly, the number of people who have succumbed to this disease, will be dramatically decreased by the end of May,” she said in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters."

Biden has dementia but Trump suggests people take bleach internally. Could be that neither is right in the head.

We’re seeing even the hardest-hit countries discussing limited re-opening based on continued reduction in deaths & success in following the rules, while the dead pile up in USA because trump keeps hindering the countermeasures without any strategy.

The biggest question is not if Trump is going to lose, it's whether Trump will end up serving time in jail after the election.

This is all correct.

I've already declared that Trump can't win unless he cheats, and he has already cheated, so I will be right no matter what, but here is why he is likely to still lose:

1) Hillary is not the opponent. People hated Hillary. She didn't campaign where she should have, and she's a woman. Our country is just not ready for a female President yet. Even the Democrats this time couldn't put a woman in the top 2. Sad, but true.

2) Trump is mired in scandal. COVID-19 makes us forget a bit, but the man has been impeached, and rightly so.

3) We will be in recession come November. Sitting Presidents and/or the party in power take the blame for recessions. Just how it is.

4) Biden's support continues to grow. Florida now polls for him along with every swing state except North Carolina. You Trumpers can say the polling was all wrong in 2016, but that isn't true. It was right on the money with regard to the national vote, and Trump won because he won key states within the margin of error.

5) Demographics have changed in 2016 in Democrats' favor.

6) Trump is the most hated President we have ever had.

You Trumpers are all really bad people. Shame on you all.

4/25 data

More of the same really on daily death stats.

Things continue to improve on a slightly accelerated curve.

Globally, 4/25 was the fourth straight day of lower death counts.

7 day average was dead flat though, because of a very bad day on 4/21.

I'm hoping when we age out of that day, the 7 day average improves a lot.

Without that 4/25 data, the 3 day averages look the best they've every been:

Globally negative 3%

US: negative 4%.

So we'll see if 4/25 is replaced by another bad day or if we are moving down the backslope of the curve.

Of course we all have concerns that 5/1 local biz openings will start us back up the curve. But we won't know that until 5/21 or so.

One interesting thing...The US was passed in per capita deaths by Switzerland.

I'm watching Sweden's relative place in the per capita death lists to see if that country's run for herd immunity works.

And I'm watching the US' relative place in the per capita death lists because I live there.

Sweden is being 'caught' by Ireland and a few small nations. I think we all have to hope that Sweden's strategy pays off with a lower death count in the long run. Because unless we get a solid cure quickly, we're all going the Sweden route in May, June, July.

Trump used the word “disinfectant” meaning medicine that kills the virus. The media reports he said to drink bleach and huff Lysol. If people are drinking bleach because they think it cures coronavirus, it’s probably best for the human race that they exit the gene pool.

I honestly have no agenda here but this continues to baffle me...

Of course no one else seems to think anything of it but because you mention per capita death in Sweden, I'll mention it yet again.... for the sake of comparison...

Population of Sweden = 10.25 mil

Population of NYC = 8.4 mil

Covid deaths in Sweden = 2200

Covid deaths in NYC = 17000

Sweden has not closed things.... NYC has closed much but is densely populated

What is happening in NYC that so many are dying relative to the rest of the world???? NYC has the highest number of per capita deaths in the world.

NYC is far more densely populated than sweden

sweden isn't made up of a majority of poor obese, unfit people who live in poor air quality.

the population of sweden doesn't get around on subways.

I suspect sweden in February didn't get the same massive inflow of french, italian and UK tourists who brought the plague to NYC.

I suspect there is a difference in nursing home deaths too...that population has taken this thing so hard everywhere that it has to be a point of comparison.

There is speculation of a nasty NYC version of the virus but I haven't seen any scientific evidence of that.

Note too that places count deaths differently.
