Well, you obviously didn't investigate Buttigieg too much, because he has a ton of stuff out there on his issues/beliefs. Also, you are delving more into whether or not he is electable. I never said anything about that. I said he would be my favorite if he had more experience. Klobuchar was my favorite of the Democratic candidates, but she obviously didn't do too well. It is probably unlikely in my lifetime that we will have an openly gay President. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be my favorite with a bit more experience.

I don't think it's possible to turn up the pressure too much. The bottom line is that climate activists don't trust that Biden will come through with what is actually needed on climate.

I do think that the climate movement has a golden opportunity right now to get the message accross. We have all experienced how a disaster can start slow and finish big. In other words we have just experienced the same kind of exponential disaster that is climate change.

We have to flatten the curve to get ahead of the climate catastrophe that is ahead. But unlike coronavirus, this one might can out every human on earth.

It was only about two years before he started running for president.

You said his ideas were tested. I was just wondering --- what ideas? He didn't seem to be an "ideas" candidate, so I don't see how his ideas were tested. I don't think too many voted for or against him because of his ideas.

I actually did not say anything about his ideas. I was referring to how well he handled himself in debates, in interviews, etc. He showed that he was smart, thoughtful, able to answer questions o the big stage without being flustered, etc. All the things a President should be. Abrams has not felt that spotlight yet.

Well, that's the milestone I use - 10 times the size typically used to define a city. South Bend is bigger than medium-sized cities like Scranton, PA, Santa Cruz, CA, Annapolis, MD, Albany, NY, Bellingham, WA, Cheyenne, WY, Duluth, MN, Flint, MI, Greenville, NC, Iowa City, IA, Kenosha, WI, Leesburg, VA, Medford, OR, Oshkosh, WI, Roanoke, VA, Santa Barbara, CA, Santa Fe, NM, Sioux City, IA, Utica, NY, Yuma AZ.

South Bend isn't just a tiny city with nothing to manage. It's the economic center of that part of Indiana, and the number of people in and around South Bend who work there definitely matters. 100,000 and on up is a big city.

Biden is already ceding ground to the progressives by saying he will lower Medicare eligibility to 60 years old. You could see that as throwing a bone or you could see it as an insight into how bad he thinks he needs progressives to come out for him.

The biden platform is already the leftiest D platform in US nominee history.

He's bent already. Which is fine.

On the other hand, Medicare at 60 is more moderate than Medicare for All.

See bold sentences above.

You talked about how Pete had all this national exposure but Stacy's ideas had not been tested yet. Clearly, you were arguing that Pete's ideas were tested.

But if you really just meant to say that Pete held up well under the pressure of debates and interviews then OK, I'll give you that. Pete did pass that test.

Stacy has also given dozens of national interviews and was involved in several debates for governor. She also performed very well.

I stand by my statement that Stacy actually has better qualifications than Pete. Just because Pete had exposure to a larger audience doesn't make him more qualified to be president. (After all, Tiny had tons of exposure too.)

The reason Pete was as successful as he was is this:

1) He is gay.

2) He is smart.

3) Because of the curiosity factor of someone like that running for president, he was able to get a lot of free cable air time early in the campaign.

A very bad one day, but if we look at 7 day averages, we continue to spin our wheels near the top of the curve.

Global 7 day average of increase of daily deaths is +2%, which is pretty close to what we've had for many days.

The USA continues to be the worst major nation at +5% per day growth (7 day average), but that number is coming down slowly. The US was 40% of world deaths yesterday - that's the highest I've seen that number. 2,804 Americans. Almost as many as 9/11. Highest death toll yet. Although often these one day spikes are states throwing in deaths from previous days.

For 4/22 data we will drop out a +14% from the 7 day average...maybe that will drive that measure into the negatives.

Frustrating and disappointing that we can't get this thing to nose over much.

Nate Silver continues to see some evidence that there may be some herd immunity starting in NYC. He's not saying that it's happening...but if it is happening, this is what the data might look like, he says. He thinks the R0 might be as low as 0.70% in NYC right now. Which would be great news.

and of course AS LATE AS MARCH the trump administration was pushing US biz to send all the PPE it could find to China. That emptied our warehouses.

Pete did well for the same reason Beto did well. Dude can talk.

People love to hear a good talker. If it is wrapped up in a decent looking package, then you have a politician.

Pete and Beto were really good talkers, and both are very smart. That's what drew people to them.

Neither was much for ideas.

Stacy actually is an ideas person. There is probably nobody in the nation who knows more and has done more on voting rights and ballot access.

I hope she is not the VP nominee so she can concentrate on that issue until November.
