Ok now that the message board is back up and running and the summer is nearly over, what is everyone's thought about the up comming season. Everyone knows if their teammates have been training and what suprize recruits each team is getting, so what do you think will happen? Will Samford be able to knock off App, or even be top three?
Good question, does anyone on here have any insight to Samford's track and field/cross country program? Are they going to be a threat for the title this year, or just another middle of the pack team? How many sub 15 guys do they have?
They seem to have a solid team. They looked ok in cross with a lot of 26 mid performances and a few under 26. On the track they look very good distance wise. They had several guys under 4 in the 1500, several guys under 945 in the steeple, several guys under 157 in the 8 and it seemed their entire team can run in the 15's for the 5k. I do not believe they have an individual standout but they should be able to but up a solid score in cross and they should be capable of scoring at least two guys in each event.
Samford has been a distance school for a while. They have a ton of scholarship (women's team fully funded or very near) and have always dumped it all in distance. Look for that to change now that they have hired a field event guy as the head coach. He is going to move the emphasis of the program from distance to being a more well rounded team. They have a good distance program right now but it will get worse over the next few years as other event groups get some of that scholarship money.
I use to run for a SoCon school not too long ago. There USE to be competition between all the schools and never was a crazy blowout. Now I can see that it has gone to crap. It'd be nice if Samford came in and changed pace a little bit, but I won't hold my breath. Furman, Davidson, and Chat have all been relying on their studs the past few years so this year you won't be seeing those teams beat the younger teams like UNCG. Though UNCG has added some quality runners to their team, I still see them as a South View high school "Glory Day" team. WOO HOO!! You won the 4A State title once...do you want a cookie? It's times like this that make me glad I QUIT running in the SoCon.
so the conference has "gone to crap" because now, instead of every team being garbage, all but a few are garbage? the SOCON has been getting stronger in the past few years, and some schools are obviously better then others, hence the blowouts. and teams like wofford have always been on par with a solid high school girls' team, and they always will be...there have always been blowouts in this conference, and there always will be.
Glad you quit running in the SoCon. You must have had a lot of success since it was so easy. App dominated last year, but that could be because they had a lot of talent and depth. Davidson, Furman, and UNCG should be very competative this year. There will not be a repeat of what happened last year. Furman,Davidson, and UNCG could all have 2 all conferences each. Don't hate on the SoCon.
Dude, what the hell are you talking about? App blew everyone out of the water for one year. and no one knows about this south view high, were college runners. And I really think things are going to be tight this year. App has made the shout out that they want step up their game, and I think teams are going to respond this year by rising to the same level. I'm personally really excited to see how it all goes down.
at least you aren't bitter.......
So basically what you're saying is that the SoCon sucked all around back then, not like now where we actually have one or two decent teams? I think it's good if there is a pacemaker leading the way for other teams to catch. We haven't exactly been known for producing any dazzling teams in the past and now that some teams are trying to step up and reach to that next level they are just getting bashed by "former" SoCon runners. Be happy that we have teams who are willing to go for it and not be always finishing in the same spot year in and year out.
Shut up Brian and do some log rolls!!!

Any schools opening up this weekend? I believe the App website said they were opening at their home meet, are any other socon schools going to it?
Ok, Eye Opener this weekend. Davidson, Furman, UNCG, Elon, Cit and everyones favorite team Wofford will be there. Correct me if I forgot anyone. Any predictions on which socon team will place highest. I putting my money on Elon (peaked early last year) with UNCG close behind them (they think they have something to prove).
And word on the street is that Davidson's Lance Hardin is back. can anyone confirm this?
Don't let this thread die. No need to start a new one when this one is still going.
