Pushback from Trumps advisers and not Trump? Come on Flagpole, that pushback emanated from Trump. Trump is responsible for that pressure. Along with all the Trump lunatics threatening to kill Fauci and requiring him to have security protection.

I think it's noble that you would want to defend a family friend but that actually makes you less objective. I do agree though that "Tony" is honest and ethical. He clearly has implicated Trump as sleeping behind the wheel and not taking warnings seriously. No he didn't come right out and say his boss is responsible for this tragedy being as bad as it is. But he pretty clearly implied that.

Tony is trying to be political and this is important. He has the voice that is honest and god forbid if he wasn't around giving us the truth. He does throw some comments to assuage trumps annoyance toward him, such as stating he virus was worse than he expected. That he felt that at some early point doesn't negate Trump fcking up and not listening to the expert advice.

Tony is under a great deal of pressure and that will affect what he says. He has to be careful yet he still wants to be honest. No one of sound mind, wants Fauci fired.

Before I come over there, Narasimhan told the other doctor, try turning the patient over onto his stomach and see if that helps.

Narasimhan didn't need to go the ICU. The flip worked.

Doctors are finding that placing the sickest coronavirus patients on their stomachs -- called prone positioning - helps increase the amount of oxygen that's getting to their lungs.

"We're saving lives with this, one hundred percent," said Narasimhan, the regional director for critical care at Northwell Health, which owns 23 hospitals in New York. "It's such a simple thing to do, and we've seen remarkable improvement. We can see it for every single patient."

"Once you see it work, you want to do it more, and you see it work almost immediately," added Dr. Kathryn Hibbert, director of the medical ICU at Massachusetts General Hospital.

I don't see Mitch KY or Graham SC losing, although that would be sweet. I think the OP is exaggerating polling there.

But Doug Jones will lose, almost for sure.

Betting odds are 60/40 in favor the GOP, so it's almost a tossup.

We all make mistakes. We all make foolish decisions. But most of us don't pay with our lives.

Having sympathy doesn't mean you agree with or condone what he did. It only means that as a fallible human, you can relate.

Why not both Georgia seats? I seriously doubt that the two seats will be split. Either Democrats will turn out and both seats go to the Dems or Republicans turn out and both seats go to the bad guys.

I think for sure both Georgia seats are in play. However they could be split. GA should be a fairly close state where candidate quality makes a difference. I'd hate to be a (appointed) sitting Senator with a record of having traded on briefing information about COVID 19 trying to defend my seat.

The special election is also a bit of a wildcard, since there are not primaries and if no candidate gains a majority there will be a runoff in January.

Sympathy has nothing to do with whether or not you agree with his decisions. We all make mistakes - some have graver consequences than others. However, we should all be above being unsympathetic toward him.

Our pastor got his wish about the hospital. Be careful what you wish for.

Actually, I take back what I said. You are right. There could easily be a runoff and that would easily split the seats.

I agree with some of what you say here, but not all. If you watch his "walkback" of his comments to Tapper, it is clear that the advisers were other medical/scientific advisers in the government he was meeting with, not Trump yes men.

There is no defending of Tony here at all. My stance is actually a defense of Trump of all people on this one particular point. I would be happy to accept that Fauci slammed Trump here, but I do not believe he did.

I fault Trump for a lot of things. He clearly publicly minimized the severity of this virus after Fauci had begun to see its danger, and with that, several moron Republican Governors in this country didn't put in place any protective measures, so that now SD is a hotspot of all places. Trump got rid of the Pandemic Response Team, cur funding that would have helped here, etc., all the while blaming Obama. Just BS. Trump clearly has blood on his hands here. He has referred to his "ban" on travel from China that everyone and their brother agreed was not a ban but a very selective restriction that essentially didn't help at all. He said later that he knew this was a pandemic before anyone else was calling it that...all typical BS Trump stuff.

I agree that Fauci is under pressure to say the right things. I believe that pressure has more to do with the death threats he has received than anything about Trump. Fauci is nearly 80 years old, and if he loses this job, its not a big deal. He can go find another job in a minute just about anywhere he would want, he could sit on a board of a ton of different companies, etc. He would likely be able to serve in the next administration if he wanted to.
