You are correct that Fauci is very popular, and for good reason. I do wonder what Fauci's end game here is though. He went on CNN after being ordered not to. He will turn 80 in December. He doesn't need a job anymore. Could be he's just going to state the truth from here on out and not care if his job is on the line or not. Biden would score points by saying he'd like Fauci in his administration wherever Fauci would like to serve, but Fauci might or might not want to be Surgeon General.

Rasmussen uses an automated call method to landlines only. No calls to cell numbers. That demographic is mostly older whites. It seems that the "demographic" of the landlines changed. There might be a tie to telemarketing call centers which have mostly closed, use landlines.are generally in rural areas, and often hire older people looking for more income -- older white workers who will answer automated landlines calls (surveys) made to them.

I will concede that he was advocating back then somewhat social/physical distancing but to say the "danger of getting coronavirus is minisculely low" is absurd. There was 1000s of travelers coming from countries which has already had many cases of the virus. Did he not realize that those coming into the country might have the virus and interaction with Americans here was GOING to happen?
