Mitch and others will always be lapdogs. The question is has all these actions peeled away support from critical voters? You would think that at least some of those swing voters in PA and other states understand how critical a person like Fauci is, and that this is no time to let the joke Trump make decisions that affect public health and safety.

If he fires Fauci, loosens restrictions anyway and this thing starts to spread then once again it becomes clear where there incompetence lies. Trump is living under the illusion of GOP favorability, but he doesn’t see that his approval within the parry has gone up because more and more reasonable people have left.

I don't see how age matters here. Fauci is clearly capable, and most importantly, he is trusted by the American public. If he wants the job he will make a great surgeon general.

No way. I bet Fauci is known by 95% of Trump voters, easily. Trumpers watch Tiny's news conferences where Fauci has made many appearances. Fauci has also been on Fox a lot.

Tiny won't fire Fauci right now unless he continues to tell the truth on TV. But I'm sure Tiny sees him as disloyal. Fauci is gone as soon as his popularity and/or celebrity dies down.

There is wisdom in crowds? Nuremberg rallies come to mind. There's never been a lynching without a good crowd. A crowd easily becomes a mob. Trump's support base is another crowd.

You're right that America's democracy - or lack of it - is part of the problem, but that problem is a reflection of the divisive tribalism that afflicts the country today.

What makes a democracy work is not the "wisdom of a crowd" but the wisdom of individuals who know how to work together and with those who think differently from themselves.

Both sides are using misleading data like above. The US has more cases than most nations because it has a larger population.

The simplest measure of how well a nation handled the crisis is cases/population.

A better measure will eventually be deaths/population. But you can't use that until it has played out everywhere.

An even better measure will be one that incorporates statistics like population density, population age, and other factors that effect how the virus spreads and kills.

But comparisons like the one in the video are just plain wrong.

The US has more cases because it screwed up.

There is also the expression that people get the governments and leaders they deserve. Trump is not an accident.

it's always a mistake to assume american voters know anything. Seriously. If you read a newspaper or hang out on twitter you think everyone is aware of what is going on. That is clearly not the case...Americans are ignorant in vast, vast ways. Which isn't always bad. But imagine walking down a street in say KC and asking random people if they have a view on Dr Fauci...you'd get a vast majority of blank stares.
