This thread was deleted by a volunteer moderator. I certainly don't want a thread this big deleted so I've restored. THat being said, this thread has served it's purpose. I've closed it to new posts.
We have a new 2024 vaccine thread here. New people don't need to try to wade through 20,000 posts to figure out what is going on.
I'll tell you. They made it up. They were selling fear
The case fatality rate for the Diamond Princess cruise ship incident was about 1%.
This happened very early in the pandemic and was, by happenstance, about as controlled an experiment in "how many people die from a novel infectious disease" as one could hope for. We know now, and it was suspected then, that the estimate was high because of that sample's age bias, but it was the best data available at the time.
There will always significant caveats with incomplete data but they aren't "made up".
You are claiming that the 3 million will die claim is based on what happened on one cruise ship.
When and where was the 3 million will die claim made? I no can find.
Wikipedia says about the ship:
The Diamond Princess is a British-registered luxury and cruise ship that is operated by Princess Cruises, a holiday company based in the United States and Bermuda. In February 2020, during a cruise of the Western Pacific, cases of COVID-19 were detected on board. The vessel was quarantined off Japan for two weeks, after which all remaining passengers and crew were evacuated. Of the 3,711 people on board, 712 became infected with the virus – 567 of 2,666 passengers, and 145 of 1,045 crew. Figures for total deaths vary from early to later assessments, and because of difficulties in establishing causation. As many as 14 are reported to have died from the virus, all of them older passengers - an overall mortality rate for those infected of 2%.
Where did you get the 1% number from? Wiki says 2%
Where is the evidence the 3 million will die claim was based on the experience of a single ship?
Bingo. They're a very very small percentage of all scientists and doctors. Most know the vaccines are completely safe and effective.
It's foolish to think it's all a huge sham, and only a few "brilliant" people like Malone et al caught on, while everyone else was duped.
But it isn't just the best and brightest, which it is, but my hospital had to give up trying to coerce the "vaccines," because the refusal rate was/is far too high to persecute and/or fire employees, because the hospital would be unable to operate even with outside staffing (mostly pureblood). The only people on your side are the incompetent, the corrupt, and/or the cowards, at least one of those three, if not a combination of two or more.
I’ll even switch gears and start trolling the pro vaxxers like Harambe. Your demeanor is the reason these idiots won’t take a vaccine. People in fly over states would rather die than take advice from a coastal lib wearing glasses with a degree from NYU.
Dr Rochelle W and Dr Birx etc needed to hire someone more down to earth and relatable to average Joe to market vaccine safety and clearly messed up
America needed a dumb idiot to explain why taking a vaccine is OK.
After three years of the pandemic, looks like the “conspiracy theorists” and “anti-vaxxers” were right again. Last week, a small official study reveals that receiving both the flu shot and Pfizer’s Covid bivalent booster at t...
Also, high school and college athletes need to follow Whitehouse guidance, and stop cooking over gas stoves. They're dropping like flies! All the good vaxxers know cooking with gas is as dangerous as parking a car indoors and leaving it running.
I was speaking to an Italian Friend who was in Italy during the dark days of the beginning of Covid. When sirens were blaring and covid deaths were affecting family and friends. He spoke about the uncertainty and how they were the first and so many things were unknown. What it was like for his family.
It got me thinking about this crazy thread. Do antivaxers and covid deniers believe that all that was just fake? It was theatre that didn't really happen to control people? It as an Italian govt plot to subjugate society?
IT is almost as if crazy right wing portion of the US society wants to to not believe what we saw with our eyes and ears. They want to rewrite history. Why?
In spite of massive pressure to get vaccinated and handwringing by the pro-vaxxers here, Americans are overwhelmingly rejecting the booster.
Booster rate by age (from CDC Covid Data Tracker)
65+: 40%
50-64: 19.9%
25-49: 10.9%
18-24: 6.5%
Parents are overwhelmingly rejecting the first two doses for their 2-4 year olds.
Fully vaxxed 2-4: 5.3%
I'd agree with "massive pressure to get vaccinated".
I don't see "massive pressure" to get the boosters, but I've tried to approach covid analytically and have paid less attention to specific policy since summer, so may be missing something.
Edit to add: On the subject of "massive pressure", one can't ignore the magnitude of anti-vax disinformation (IMHO and supported by the analytics) influencing public behaviors.

The part about controlling people. Here is one example:
R.I. bill would impose fines and double the taxes of those who refuse COVID-19 vaccine
PROVIDENCE — Rhode Islanders who don’t get the COVID-19 vaccine would face $50 monthly fines and have to pay twice what they’d otherwise owe in personal income taxes, under a state Senate bill.
Senator Samuel W. Bell, a progressive Providence Democrat, proposed the legislation, which has drawn sharp and, in some cases, vulgar criticism on Twitter. And it has prompted Senator Jessica de la Cruz, a North Smithfield Republican, to organize an email campaign opposing the measure.

Remember back at that point, Leftists were accusing Trump of being a racist for blocking air travel from China, and naive virtue signalers were hugging Chinese people (some straight from Wuhan) to show "Asians are NOT a virus."
In #Florence, a Chinese Italian with a placard reading "I'm not a virus, I'm a human" at his side, met with enhusiastic hugs of passers-by. #ImNotVirus #ImHu...
The Left takes normal, ration precautions are racism, and then when the deaths started rolling in, from the CDC murderous protocols, they did a 360 and all of society had to be shutdown.

This is a prime example of right wingers mis-remembering things. Trump, in fact, did not block air travel from china. It was a limited ban that still allowed tens of thousands of foreign nationals in. Additionally, democrats accused Trump (correctly I might add) of being racists long before the travel restrictions. Finally the virus spread worldwide so the travel restriction didn't do much.

This is a prime example of left wingers revising history.
1. Trump imposed a limited ban, Democrats reacted as it was the worst and most racist thing in history, didn't believe the virus was a threat.
2. "Democrats accused Trump (correct I might add) of being racists long before the travel restrictions." No duh. Racist, sexist, homophobe, transphobe, Islamophobe, etc: "Istophobe," all the Left says, all day, every day. Well, throw in some "Climate Change" and "Trust the (settled/hoax) Science." All while oppressing people under their own pyramid of racial/sexist/sexual privilege, enshrined in law for legalized discrimination in education/employment/etc.
3. Hug a Chinese super spreader. Oh, noes, lockdown society, ignore basic human rights and coerce experimental gene therapy. Masks work against viruses, despite the legal disclaimers otherwise, "Trust the Science" (believe and persecute heretics).
