Cases are still rising here in Georgia. We're now back at case numbers not seen since mid-January. South Georgia is getting hit very hard right now.
Deaths are starting to climb as well. The 7-day average has risen to over 10/day for the first time since the 1st of June.
Our percent positive tests have risen from below 2% two months up to over 17%.
Hospitalizations are back up to early February levels.
School systems are reporting thousands of cases since schools have started back over the last two weeks.
It's no surprise our cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are rising. Currently, we only have 41% of the population fully vaccinated.
We still face very low vaccination rates due to our trifecta of hesitant vaxxers and anti-vaxxers: Trump-followers, white evangelicals, and African-Americans. We have made great strides in the African-American community, so hopefully we will be able to take them off the list at some point soon. The other two groups don't seem to be moving away from their vaccine hesitancy very much which is troubling.
If these two groups continue to be anti-vax and anti-mask, Georgia will continue to be in a cycle of high cases and high deaths.
BTW, I just got my 3rd shot (booster) this morning.
