I second that! Its hard to use your speed on a cross course in the 8k distance. It is completely different than say a mile on the track or even a 5k on track.
I agree, esp. when you're "tempoing" the entire xc season to get ready for indoor track!
Too bad a regional meet does not exist in track. This message board could continue throughout the year.

I agree, but because I think the regional system for track is better than a time qualifier, especially in DIII because schools can't all afford to send their kids to a high quality meet. Many in the northeast send their runners to Bucknell, Princeton or Penn Relays and if the weather or the race is bad at the meet, it ruins their chances to go to nationals.
In all seriousness, regarding "tempoing" meets:
I've coached and spectated in the AR for quite a while. I've seen that different approaches can be successful for different programs, and if tempoing races and/or infrequent racing can get you the results you want, that's fine with me!
But if you have only a few races a season and/or only a few that you run all out, and you're NOT getting the results you want--
then maybe something that would work would be to have more regular-season meets (perhaps even including a dual/tri/quad-meet or two?), or maybe just to try going hard in every meet that you DO run.
I mean, races themselves do have a training effect, right? Maybe the teams that consistently underperform (based on their talent/experience level, quality of off-season preparation, etc.) at the Regional level should try adding a little more *hard* racing to the rest of their training routine. It seemed to work for some of the all-time great teams BITD...

I'm pretty sure NYU was tempoing at regionals.
The amount of pissed off that Coach Nick was displaying would indicate that they weren't.
How much faster do you think Pavlus could've gone with someone to push her? Still a threat to win it all on Saturday?
What an embarrassing year for RIT. They lost a few guys, but 14th a year after a 4th?! Ouch. Even the cortland freshmen beat them.
Teams that claim to tempo meets are usually the teams that can't do sh9t at the big dance anyways... How many regional meets did NYU tempo when they won? 0. How many regional races did Cortland tempo when they won? 0. the good teams don't tempo races...that is for the teams that need an excuse. The term tempo gets thrown around way to easily. Controlled and tempo are two different things.

They lost five of their top seven. That being said, it's still really embarrassing.
According to the USTFCCCA, Geneseo led the country with most runners All-Region with 8. Aside from the fact that I don't think anyone gets to race 8 runners it appears as though they've listed Josh Guarino of Fredonia as a Geneseo runner. Glad their write-up guys know what they're doing.

I hope the editor does a video for nationals as well!
I think you have the wrong link.... ??
The actual link:
These guys are great. An unbiased, hilarious commentary with a seriously good command of atlantic region runners. It's too bad they couldn't get around to more points on the course.
Additionally, tough break for TCNJ. Unlike some arguably more talented teams in the region, they really performed Saturday.

I was standing at the 1k mark and she already had a sizable gap at that point, she even had the energy to truck a careless spectator who was blocking the course.
It is scary how much better she was than everyone else in that race.
I looked around the nationals website and couldn't find anything, but does anyone know if they are going to have any sort of live feed from the race this weekend? I know it's not typical, but I figured if someone knew of something then this is a good place to ask.
well, it'll be a lot different come Saturday. At least 2 from the Midwest Region to give her quite a push...
