This thread was deleted by a volunteer moderator. I certainly don't want a thread this big deleted so I've restored. THat being said, this thread has served it's purpose. I've closed it to new posts.
We have a new 2024 vaccine thread here. New people don't need to try to wade through 20,000 posts to figure out what is going on.

He is the one that brought up 18+ data in a discussion about vaccinating young healthy people. I simply brought up similar data from the UK. If you prefer 18-49 (to decrease the dreaded Simpson's paradox), I can give you that as well:
Vaxxed Case Rate: 2,682.18 Unvaxxed Case Rate: 813.17 Vaxxed rate > 3.3X Vaxxed Hosp. Rate: 6.21 Unvaxxed Case Rate: 6.90 Unvaxxed rate > 1.1X Vaxxed Death Rate: 0.53 Unvaxxed Death Rate: 0.40 Vaxxed rate > 1.4X
I always accepted the Ontario data, heck, I was one of the first to report it on here.
can you link to the data you’re using please? I don’t really believe you’re using Mar-May 2021 as a datapoint in this discussion. Can you address that?
Was the last week they published the tabular data, as there was no longer a significant difference in outcome between the vaccinated and unvaccinated for those under 50 (other than a much higher rate of infection among the vaccinated).

Vaccinated people get regular, affordable healthcare because they are gainfully employed and thus should have more reported cases.
Unvaccinated people are not insured because they are at home watching alt-right anti-vaxx porn and thus do not go to the doctor's office.

Ok so it was actually 2022. Thanks for clearing that up.
I feel like we heavily discussed this at the time when you were spamming unadjusted rates daily. You always insisted on the raw data and not adjusted VE estimates… same old JD. Whatever gives you the answer you want I guess.
Pretty disheartening and overlooked by one, oft-cited Topol. What is really driving the hyper-evolution of this virus around the spike antigens? Curiouser and curiouser.

Ok, unclear why Topol was so absolutely triggering but the dude literally cited Ho in his last blog post.
Anyway, it's well established that infections are a primary source of escape mutants. Vaccination certainly contributes but it's really the massive amount of infections. But, hey, we don't care about mild infections so... whatever.
Also 'hyper-evolution' is more alarmist than Topol at his worst.
My doctor told me (young&healthy)if it weren’t for possibility of long Covid, just skip the booster/who cares.
That being said, the vaccines are very safe. I had three shots and no problem. I believe the studies demonstrate they are safe (I know 99% posters to this thread will try to say otherwise). I still got Covid eventually once I ventured out into the world more-which isn’t surprising at all based on what we now know -(maybe I would have reduced my risk of getting infected had I gotten a timely booster but it’s OK). since the shots were expired, I likely didn’t get any protection from the shots at the time of my infection. But I am glad to have been infected with Covid ~3 years into the pandemic, instead of at the very beginning of it (early to mid 2020). For one, hospitals have a much better idea as to how to treat it should you run into trouble (unlikely to run into trouble with the latest variants and being young and healthy I know but maybe not so much with the a type and delta). for example, they learned from earliest cases to turn the patient over in prone position and they had very limited access at the time to the best treatments money could get- they gave to elites like Donald Trump, but not to the bums. Early in pandemic we saw in China that young healthy doctors (late 20s) died of Covid in Wuhan - scary stuff.
look… I wish this coronavirus sht never hit us in the world but it did… Bill Gates is correct that There will continue to be pandemics and this risk remains high along with a number of other global health threats …there are a lot of things we know now that we did not know back then and there are also things we don’t know about this virus, eg what’s next with the variants, perhaps a Covid shot only once per year recommended by MDs, the mysteries of long Covid, etc.
To believe some of the crazy theories about Fauci et al, you’d have to believe in worldwide conspiracies and everyone being in on some type of supposed scam globally, not just USA based…I talk on business calls to people in Thailand and they are still requiring Covid tests on all workers before they come into a corporate office every Monday to make sure they do not have Covid and everyone in office is wearing masks at their desks.
We also have paxlovid now for those at risk who get infected and it’s free, you just need an MD to write a prescription, but USA drugstores are a f’ing mess right now, so you may have to drive around to two or three drugstores before one of them will have enough sense to get it to you
There are also people who try to time covid booster shots with holiday travel plans (super long lines in drug stores days before Christmas just to get the shots) which is foolish…The chair at UCSF school of medicine says this is like trying to time the stock market.

They are all vaccinated with multiple shots too, Moderna btw

Yeah, yeah, same old arguement that the FBI under Hoover/etc used to deny the existence of the Mafia, that organized crime on that scale couldn't/didn't exist.
