Looks like she runs 16 miles a week plus a 15 min "speed" running work out. Could be the overtraining that hurt her!

The time isn't the point, it's the lack of training she did. Nobody around here is likely to win a marathon, but one should at least do his or her best to prepare for the event.

I'm sure if you ponder the issue for a while you'll see that there's a difference between two hard-working groups of people maybe a half-hour apart in average finishing times and a bunch of serious (if not world-class) runners and a comically underprepared bopalong regaling the world with the saga of her 400-minute Canadian adventure.

East Africans would make fun of ALL of us, I agree. But to think that me running a 2:32 and her running a 6:39 and then comparing my 2:32 to an East African's 2:07, now that is just unfounded.

If I understand this right, she wasn't just "publicized" on MSNBC, she's the Entertainment Editor. I think Denise has herself in a heck of a bind. She has committed as an employee of MSNBC, on their website, to complete an Iron Man in 2005 (the Year of Denise), and has just failed miserably in her first marathon. I use the term "failed" in the connotation of preparing for an Iron Man. To back out is obviously professional suicide. To prepare properly in the time available is questionable. I think she needs to be on one of those Southwest Airline commercials - need to get away?

That's dangerous. Now she is locked in. Man I hope she trains in the meantime, and no, I don't mean 16 miles per week or even 40 per week on galloway, mind you. Man I am praying for her.

Because of this, Tim Broe, Ritzenhein, Webb, Culpepper, Meb, Abdi, Torres, Kennedy, Goucher, McDougal, Rupp, Solinsky, Withrow, and all the top guys will stop training.
Any high school kid that reads the article will hatch a scheme to fatten up and make millions.
In short, the alarming obesity trend will now accelerate because of this woman's article, and in one year, fully 89% of America will be morbidly obese.
But her article is not quite as harmful as the amount of time you losers are wasting complaining about it. Grow up.
It certainly cannot do any more damage than the "dedicated fans" of running already do. Between cocky young jerks, anorexic girls, the "everybody good does drugs" crowd, the weird social misfits that show up at every local race, The Penguin, the senior citizens who limp through races for cheap applause, Dean Karnazes, the over-enthused charity groups, costumed freaks, the guys that run over people's ankles with jog strollers so that their precious six month old daughter can be "first woman" to finish, arrogant running store employees and "Chat Board Champions", this sport does an outstanding job of presenting its worst side to the world on a daily basis.

You are off. That 89% has already been met. in one year it will be near 99%. There will be more MSNBC articles of 7 hour marathoners, and now all people will be allowed in the Tour de France. We will then have articles on MSNBC about middle aged women who completed the tour in a few years and all the hardships through each stage. Truly motivating I guess, at worst.

Guys come on, I think we should give him a chance. It takes time to upgrade from 16 miles per week to 40 miles per week. That takes a lot of time to do. I mean, consider this point. If she does get up to 40 or even 50 mpw, she risks performing well and losing her spotlight on MSNBC. Besides, haven't you read Richard's posts? Running 3 times per week at 16 miles per week should in fact, be optimal. I think this guy know his stuff.
