First, that was a well-written article. Magness is a talented guy. He also hits on the part of doping that upsets me the most. It diminishes the accomplishments of the clean athletes. The performance of clean baseball players like Dale Murphy fall off a cliff when they hit their mid- to late-30s and those home runs turn into warning track outs while frauds pile up huge numbers.

I'll refrain from commenting on Magness' coaching ability as I know very little about it.
I suggest others should do the same unless you have a fountain of inside knowledge in which case feel free to share it with us.

He seems to know what he's talking about from his blog. I've met plenty of what I would call 'good' coaches that don't have half the technical/scientific knowledge that Magness has. Not that guarantees at all that he will become a great coach himself. But to say that he is not a "real" coach (whatever that means) is just ridiculous.

Canova was referring to the coaching ability. I recall it pretty clearly and sat near them both discussing training after their presentation.

That was written before there was a test for EPO or HGH. Presumably his defense would be that improved testing has leveled the playing field.

Assuming drug testing is working better now than in 1999 and Rupp and Farah are clean, Salazar would say that the current testing regime now lets clean runners medal and Rupp and Farah are proof of that.
I don't have any inside knowledge to know whether that's actually true or not, but reading the whole paper by Salazar, I don't see anything in it that is actually controversial or suspicious.

This was EXACTLY what I thought. He dropped a few names. The silence regarding Farah, Rupp, and Salazar was deafening. I literally started laughing while reading the article. It was pretty obvious what was being said between the lines.
Also thought I'd add after reading through this thread, you people are absolutely retarded if you think Magness (or anyone else) should or would whistle blow upon leaving the NOP. Are you fvcking kidding me? To do so would be a death sentence to one's career and maybe even one's life (see the article that was posted about the Nike employee beating). And for what? To see justice? No one is going to have their life destroyed just to bust a few athletes.
To me, it was clear as day what was being said in the article. It wouldn't surprise me if Magness gets blackballed by Nike because of this.
Also, he could have been let go of the NOP for reasons completely unrelated to PEDs and still have known about PEDs. The two are not mutually exclusive. He probably WAS let go because he didn't add anything to the program, but he probably also got an idea of what was going on behind closed doors. He probably never saw anything with his own eyes nor has any concrete evidence to show anyway, further making any sort of outing impractical (Nike would sue his @ss off).
Interesting times we live in.
Jury is still out on Magness' coaching ability. I certainly was very far from impressed with the work he did with Areson last year. That was a major eff up.
