Most ridiculous proposal yet: arm all the teachers.

I live in a city that had a mass shooting a few years back. A disgruntled local shot a police officer outside city hall, then walked into the council chambers and shot a second police officer, the city engineer, the mayor, two council members and a reporter. With the exception of the reporter, all died from their wounds (the mayor actually passed away some months after the shooting, but his death was attributed to his wounds). Don't assume a gun in the room will protect you from such carnage. The element of surprise and drawing your gun first is an immediate advantage.

Arming teachers is crazy talk. Do you arm every teacher? The training and expenses involved would be enormous. What sort of insurance would school districts need to carry? Besides, shooters aren't dumb. Arm the teachers, and they'll come dressed in bullet proof armor a la the Aurora shooter.

Seems like we are giving up a lot more of our freedoms just to hang on to these semi-automatic weapons. How often a day do we all want to be frisked? How many metal detectors do you want to walk through a week? How comfortable would you feel if your child's teacher was carrying a pistol that could accidentally go off at any moment? To keep shooters out of our schools we are going to put a gun in every classroom? That makes no sense.

'preciate the shout-out about insurance bro'. You're right - insurance concerns matter a lot more than arming teachers with tasers or guns to protect them & their students.

Oh crap - someone better check with the po-po on their insurance! They carry auto weapons & shoot people. Who is gonna insure that?

I have heard this body armor thing before. It would take armor piercing rounds to kill the guy, you are right. But, a round from a 10mm is gonna change the bad guys mind, even if he is wearing armor. Wearing armor will keep you alive, but getting shot would still not feel very good.

When the exit plan is suicide, do you even think a mass shooter will give a sh*# how bad a bullet hurts? He just wants to live long enough to exact as much carnage as possible. The armor buys him that time.
