Why aren't you asking "Why are the Democrats are holding up the middle class tax cut of 3 Trillion for 700B?" You spin it based on what "team" you are on.
Everyone wants to pass the 3 trillion, but the dems are holding it up for the 700B.
The billionaires you speak of are so rich they do not really represent the people who would be paying the additional taxes. There is a huge difference between them and someone making just over $250,000 or even a million.
good god you are so full of misinformation is it absurd. do you even watch / read the news?
a couple days again democrats in the house passed a bill that would extend the bush tax cuts below the 200/250k threshold. as discussed earlier, this is a substantial tax cut for most americans, definitely including all tax-paying wealthy americans.
today senate democrats had over 50 votes - a majority - to pass the house bill and also to pass a version with the threshold raised to $1 million.
democrats are not "holding up" anything!! they have a majority vote in both chambers. the original bush tax cuts were passed using reconciliation because they didn't have 60 votes. and now republicans are blocking majority rule. it's a dirty trick.
only one party is blocking this massive tax cut for the middle class. only one party voted against obama's massive tax cut for the middle class in 2009 (mostly the making work pay credit, and also the AMT patch).
i suppose i partly blame the horrid mainstream media for your lack of knowledge about these things.
finally, the large majority of the tax dollars related to "taxable incomes" above 200/250k comes from millionaires and billionaires. again, that's just fact. one would need to have probably 275k pretax for an individual and 350k as a couple to even have a dollar of income taxed at a higher rate. and that would be only a few pennies difference on the last few dollars. the democrats' bill has no material tax increase on those who have pretax income below 350k ish for individuals and 400k ish for couples.
