Everyone I've talked to is in agreement that with the 3 columns on the message boards things were too narrow to read the posts. So we've gone back to the old format until we can do 2 columns.
The slow load times we've made some fixes too and are still working on. My apologies. We expected a few hiccups along the way and it was a bigger one than we wanted.
So you didn't even beta test the format before taking it live?
I like the idea of subtly colouring the background of the message board purple (or whatever Puma's colours are). Gets the message across without being severely intrusive like before. Besides, a different colour might be a nice change.
I was just looking at the homepage and it appears as though a grinning Usain Bolt is winding up to backhand me.

seems like this may have been a rush job. the whole point is to tie the launch of their Bolt merchandise in with the Paris Diamond League.
that said, it's not hard to test things out... an hour or two would've revealed plenty. but hey, it's less intrusive now. all's well that ends well.
the red banner at the bottom is really irritating, though. i mean, yes. you want us to know this is being done by Puma, and you want us to click through to shop.puma.com. I get it. But red is a poor choice precisely because it's so eye-catching. After the first time I saw it, and the first time I opened the link, it had nothing to give to me. Making it travel with us as we scroll down ends up doing nothing but narrowing our screens on the vertical axis and drawing our eyes away from content even after we've absorbed the message of your ads, a property not shared by the other stuff--which I found quite well done.
nice design. Agree your logo should be bigger. Majority of LRers probably aren't huge fans of Bolt's though and are unlikely to buy his gear... they (puma)should promote longer distance types if the want to sell to LRers... but it's their cash... oh - and since UB's turning out to be a big partying cheeseball, makes one wonder all the more about potential PED's...
Must be fun to have your own small aficionado website where on a whim you can play around and try different stuff. At my company we have to go through layers and layers of managers and review boards before we can put major changes online.
I don't know what was going on with the message boards earlier today because I couldn't log on however the home page is an unreadable pile of poo and it's unlikely that I'll spend much time there if the banner is kept there as obnoxiously as it is.
Isn't there something more subtle that can be uses by Puma?

this is much better than earlier, internet is faster, and more space on the threads. I like the bolt ad, it looks modern and hip. I wouldn't mind having even more of his ad on the thread, but not too much

Perhaps you are not educated enough to realize that the same design could be used; but executed in a newer, higher technology ("something that can scale" as they say in the biz.
Other than that, the logo is outdated, looks like "let's surf" dotcom, and the colors are outdated and ugly.
As far as the Puma spew all over the home page, it's okay at best, and weird and poorly executed at worst. Puma these days = how fast can we copy Nike...
At this point Bolt is over exposed, and not very exciting. Good think he acts like a big kid, or he would be truly a bore.

I know hardly any distance runners who will purchase something so flashy and gold. Also the logo and lettering looks like something straight out of harry potter. Finally, it's Usain Bolt, not Soli, Teg, Meb so it doesn't resonate as much.
OK, it's much better now than it was this morning. Glad you fixed the load time issue. The ads don't look bad. Not anything I'd ever buy, but I'm glad you're getting the revenue.
