Mileage is not going to bother your calves. Dehydration and power (sprints, jumps) are what you need to worry about. Just get on good wide, well groomed trails, run doubles, and you will be able to get the mileage way up without injury, as long as you do a series of preventive exercises along the way.

As for my fastest mile in the last 6 months, well it's slow as I have only done one race, which was pacing my 14 year old in his first 5k. We went through the first mile in 6:03. I don't do workouts either, so no chance of me running faster than that in training.
