I'm not really sure where all the people are coming from claiming that Ron Paul and his ideas are extreme. They really aren't. If you would actually take the time to read his book and listen to his debates, you would likely agree that he uses logic and sound philosophy to form his opinions.

I agree that he repeats the same things over and over and they are all basically a recitation of his "manifesto", but all politicians have basic talking points and tenets to which they reiterate and cling to.

Paul's stances on issues flat out make sense. They make so much sense that they worked very well for over a hundred years in the United States. He argues that we need to go back to our foundation and how our country used to operate. It's only the last 70 years or so that our country has declined into the state it's in today.

Would our founders want this much power invested in a central government that is immune to the people's will and doesn't act on behalf of it's best interest?

Just because Keynesian principles are taught in civics and economics textbooks doesn't because they are the central theories employed by an unlawful central bank doesn't make them correct.

The foundation of government is rotted to it's core. It needs to be leveled and rebuilt. Time to do away with the two party politics system and have some change. This change is only radical because we have become so used to this big government system over recent times.

Our country has declined in the last 70 years?!? 70 years is exactly how long we have been the world's wealthiest and most powerful country. The expansion of the central government is exactly what pulled us out of the great depression, and what lead to our most fecund years, the 50's, 60's, and 70's. It is only because of predominantly conservative rule over the last 30 years that we have seen a decline in our prosperity.

Our founder fathers' intentions are of very little help in navigating the complexities of the modern global economy. And by the way we pay the least taxes out of any advanced civilization in the world. And we have crap healthcare because of it.

Deregulating and lowering taxes are conservatives all encompassing solution to every economic problem. It's funny how anyone with an economics degree understands that markets cannot regulate themselves while all the kinesiology major pundits on letsrun think the end is near and we must tear down Washington and bury gold in our backyards.

Nope, don't have a Phd in economics nor did I graduate from a respected college. You pretty much got me pegged. So maybe you'll listen to what Alan Greenspan has to say? Did he graduate form a respectable enough college for you?

He wrote a paper while he was chairman advocating for a commodity backed currency over a fiat currency (yes, ron paul cites this in his book, just because I know you'll call me out on this)

I don't need a Phd in economics to know that when the head of the very institution that cripples a free market economy writes a paper speaking against the means by which he exercises his power, there is little doubt as to the role the Federal reserve should play.

So unless you can offer a better solution than "free markets can't regulate themselves" (none of us are advocating for total deregulation, just less) go back to your ivory tower.

Little help there genius - the federal fiscal year runs from Oct-Sep. For that reason the current Pres had a bit of help in FY 2009 with the TARP funding and bailout of Detroit in the Fall of 2008. 2010 being the first year where a budget was presented that includes funding for the two wars. Bush's budgets never included war spending that were instead accounted for with supplemental funding. Most accountants call that off-balance-sheet liabilities. This becomes more apparent if you add up budget deficits from the last several years and compare it with the rise in the fiscal debt. More than a couple trillion dollars not accounted for in the budget. Tea party - where were art thou? Fools come out of the woodwork when they're in the minority. The only difference between the two parties is that the Dems try to justify new programs and spending with taxes. The GOP generally breaks budgets and increases debt with tax cuts and no related cost cutting.
