He'll be faster than Barrios, and sub 27. Barrios was 13:07/27:08 at age 26, and I think Rupp will get there in 2010 as a 24 yro.

Rupp started running before Bekele did (Bekele started at 15). What exactly is it about Rupp that makes him so special? Not many 27:30 runners go on to break 27:00, especially if they're 22, which is not that young. A sub-27 10k takes a sub-13 5k. What suggests Rupp is capable of that? You don't have to be a sub-13 5k to run sub-27 10k. It is the endurance that matters. Look at John Cheruiyot Korir who has 26:52 10k and his 5k is only 13:09. Sammy Wanjiru has a career 13:12 5k and yet with 26:41 10k. Leonard Patrick Komon has ran 26:57 10k yet with 13:04 5k. Though we may argue that most of these fellows only ran the shorter distance to test their 10k speed, it is still possible that athletes with somewhat constant speed will do a sub 27 for 10k without ever coming even close to 13:15 for 5k. In my opinion Rupp has more endurance hence he will do better in the 10k. Career best for him would be 26:55/26:57. He could do that within the next two to three years but he has to camp in Europe for summers and train and race with some of the best in the world. As long as he stays out here and runs one or two races in Europe, that time may never come. As for AR, I think he could be ready for that this year.

Wow, I can't believe we are having a legit argument about Rupp breaking 27. That has to mean something doesn't it?

Those We know Rupp is good for that 3000m mark and I can see him bettering that time for 5000m, so maybe sub27 isn't so unrealistic after all.

cmon we all know kamathi was more capable of sub 13 and sub 740 than rupp. your argument = epic fails

This is the smartest, most logical thing posted in this entire thread.

Rupp has not been "babied," his been well coached by a guy who knows what it means to not over train and meatgrind...because he's been through it himself.

Rupp is an Outlier.

American track no longer means even what it meant 13 years ago in an Olympic year...

Every USA track fan ought to appreciate that Rupp was discovered, and nurtured cogently.

I for one hope he has a great long career.
