You have no idea what you're talking about. Talking out of your ass really. If you knew even slightly what his training has been you would never say such nonsense. He's a 2:10 or better marathoner. It will show in time. 2:18 in gale force winds....I tend to believe he could have run quite a bit faster in good conditions....you're an idiot.
By the way, why in the world would he not hope to win twin cities? He entered the race with a 2:13 - 3rd fastest in the country?

You didn't take into account the wind. The wind was very strong. Young ran by himself for 99% of the race into a headwind...2:18 isn't so bad in those conditions, now is it?
Also...in a few years I believe he will prove to be one of America's best marathoners...we will see...
Oh, so I guess that Cabada's 2:12 in Fukuoka was a fluke too? Must have given him unrealistic expectations about his potential - after all, he only ran 2:16 at Twin Cities. Pretty similar difference in performance if you ask me. 2:12-2:16 vs 2:13-2:18
Sorry I touched a nerve. I thought that he had no business thinking he had a chance at Twin Cities as a one hit wonder. I felt like he had no chance. I guess it ended up being a lucky guess.
As far as the race this morning, he finished 8 minutes behind the winner. Seems about right. Wind for all athletes. Congrats Justin on your second best marathon.

I would like to ask you why you think I had no business thinking I could win Twin Cities? Why do you think I'm a one hit wonder when you have already said my 2:13 wasn't legitimate? In Rotterdam I was 8 minutes behind the winner...today I was 8 minutes behind the winner.

Here is what I have noticed about breakthrough races when it comes to the World Championships......Guaranteed failure.
Josh Cox runs 2:13 then horrible at WC
Jimmy Hearld runs 2:12 then horrible at WC
Fernando Cabada 2:12 craps out at WC
Consistent guys run well at World Championships. American marathoners that have not established this consistancy prior to the WC always fail.

I would rather you head to Chicago and create some 2:13 consistancy.

Also, sitting here and saying Justin is a sub 2:10 guy is completely rubbish. Has he run remotely close to that? Hell no, and saying he can is putting him ahead of most of our current marathoners, there's no way he's more talented or a better runner than Ritz, unless you want to come out and say Ritz is a 2:05 guy, which he isnt.
Justin is a 2:13 guy, which he ran at Rotterdam, 8 minutes of the leaders. he is an 8 minute of the leader type guy, a guy that will never be compeitive in the big ones internationally unless he joins the Salazar group and gets the "extra" benefits.

This is an incorrect inference. Only the winner, from a group of about 20-30 finished that far ahead, and he had people (including a pacer) breaking the wind for him, as did all of the others (they chose to run a pace that was probably too fast in order to have the advantage of the wind break provided by the pack). Thus, the runners in the first ten did NOT have to break nearly as much wind.

I agree with your post. But the system sucks. USATF will probably send Cabada who we have already seen fail at Worlds and Young who we know can't finish within 8 minutes of the leaders.

This might be the stupidest post in recent history (by which I mean today). It is LetsRun though "Met at the ridge" so you still have to step up your game to be a trash talking pu$$y and an idiot that will compete 8 minutes behind the leaders in these forums.
To recap you are saying that a runners PR (Young's) could have been his downfall?? Say that a few more times spin around twice and then if you still think it's a good idea, shoot your mouth off appropriately.
Twin Cities was cold...and wet...and Young locked up. Cabada prevailed and had a good race. Cabada is also a rookie in the grand scheme of things with little regard for training consistency who would rather spend time with the liquor bottle than log long runs. In time this will show as his flash in the pan youth fades, and he realizes he can't drink double fisted in the Boulder bars without feeling it the next day. In 4-5 years from now, Young will most likely have that 2:10-2:11 and Cabada will be working the checkout line at King Soopers.
In terms of "honest levels" Young placed ahead of Cabada at the US 1/2's, 9th overall I think? Was the top US guy at World 1/2's a while back in India (18th) and has logged more miles in his career than me, you, and probably any other guy but Ritz combined. The marathon is a sport of a attrition, the more you wear against it, the closer you will become to achievement. The more you race the more you learn.
I'm going to go do a 5K tempo now, and if I run reasonably well I'm going to hope it doesn't "bite me in the ass" if I line up or a race in a week or so, because I think I'm fit. Good call dude.

He won the 1990 Columbus Marathon in his personal record of 2:12.17, qualifying him for the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. He took third-place finish which was the first distance medal for the United States in international competition since Frank Shorter in 1976.
You should also look at Constantine Tomescu-Dita. All it takes is the right day for a career "Guaranteed failure," as you call it, to medal at Worlds or win Gold.
