he's the next big thing don't ya know

Flynn fell in the race....
National Junior champion waiting to happen
I'm not too impressed with those results from Belgium. These lads need to start thinking bigger, they seem happy to be the best Junior in Ireland. Flynn and Ward were 50 secs behind the Belgian winner and a British guy that will sruggle to make the UK team.
These aren't superstars, European Junior athletes (and not even the very best ones) when it comes to European Junior XC champs there will be a lot of people in those 50 secs.
A big step up in performance needed if any of these boys are to make any impression in Brussels.
Just wanted to add a realistic point of view
That English guy beat Mitch Goose by 55 seconds in a race a week before Belgium Mitch was on the euro and world team and was only 3 seconds behind Murphy in the worlds. When Murphy was 5th european home.
lads lets get real for a minute, i wouldnt mention any of these guys except for ward and murphy. Points:
Ward- Good talent and has a great kick. Can go places.
Murphy- 48th in World Cross, 8.20 3k on track
Flynn, Mulhare etc have never broken 8.40 for 3k or 15.00 for 5k.Thats a joke, forget x-country track is where its at.The best athlete out of these guys is the one that runs the 1500m or 5000m qualifying time for the Euro u23 champs in 2011.My money is on Ward and Murphy
How come flynn was the closest to the world jr time with 9.15 for the steeple?

May get your facts right there and secondly maybe track is where its at but its at x-country at the min so thats what the focuss hould be on. Im sure they'll worry about 2011 when it comes around, vry stupid to be makin predicitions that far away, alot of running should be done till den.
Its not with that attitude that the Irish Junior Team will do any good at Europeans...
You are trying to build these lads against each other when they should be encouraged to respect each other to be the best team mates as possible. They need to encourage& support each other to be the best possible at Euros not wish sh!t to their team mates.
You lads think you are standing for your friend, clubmate, athlete you coach, etc. by abusing his rival but are in fact just making things worse for your negativity.
Junior Race today at Gateshead International X-Country:
1- David Forrester England 24.29
2- Tsegai Twelede Eritrea 24.46(19th in World X Mar 08)
3- Philip Bersten England 24.50 ?
4- Craig Murphy Ireland 24.53
5- Chris O Hare Scotland 25.05
Flynn would have broke 25 on that course doing a tempo.
murphy did a 19.36 4 miler the other week, and after this run in gateshead seems to be the man in form.
flynn has not done 9.15 steeplechase, get ur facts right it was a 9.17.8, and over 2k steeple he couldnt even beat tomas cotter nor break 6mins in leinster or all ireland schools. world standard is poor for steeple anyway, lets see flynn get near the 5k standard, 14.15, not a chance!!
maybe mulhare had bad run in belgium, but if not im betting on a murphy cakewalk, silver is up for grabs

Cross country in Ireland is catttttttt!!!!! These lads will show that come the euros. for some reason they build themselves up as good athletes if thwey make an irish team but our best cross country runners struggle to break mundane time of 4 min 1500m and 820 3k and 1420 5k on the track. and this is being very generous with some of these times to some who'll make the senior team.
The juniors are catt and the u23s will be a massive joke as will the seniors.
top junior won't make the top 25 and the top U23 won't make the top 35 and the same for the senior men. Senior women will be okay but the others might have one or two good runners with the rest making up the numbers in the bottom ten.
making the euro cross aint the achievement that people think it is. AND ATHLETICS IS not a team sport! like peopel think xc is.
Murphy didnt race any of those events besides the cross countries. Mulhare ran 8-40ish and murphy 8-20. Mulhare cant break 15min and murphy runs 14-39. To add insult to injury murphy runs 15.03 in the rathfarnam 5k.

nah man thats bullshit. we dont have the strength in depth but our top athletes are more than capable of making top 20 in euros. obviously flynn will top 5 in junior. seriously tho..
murphy in junior
claw and chessor in u23
I Feel Sorry For David Flynn everyone is just making a joke of him and of course he is no Macarthy but he is one of Irelands best at the moment and hope he doesnt read this crap and has a good race this weekend.
The current crop of Irish junior men are among the weakest I have seen. I have been involved in coaching for nearly twenty years and can talk about Colm McClean, a young Jimmy Nolan, Gareth Turnbull and so on and let me tell you, they were stars. If the stories that Flynn has not broken 15 minutes for 5k are true then let me give some some straight facts - to place top 10 at European Cross he will need to go through 5k at that pace! Dont believe me then go look at the results.
Thats not bullshit. irs the truth. murphy in the junior will not be top 20. He couldn't even break 15 mins for 5k in rathfarnham. Thats like someone not being able to skydive a mile in under four minutes. its cattt!!!! although he is talented, far better than the rest of the juniors bar none.
chesser and claw won't be in top 50. cheeser is a good runner but just bnot a good cross country runner. Far more talented than claw. claw was catt last year and will be again.
Only good male cross country runners we have are dave mccarthy and fagan. And both are better on road or track. vinny, alan mac etc.... are extremely average runners who can only represent irteland in team crosss countrys bercause they are not good enough for the road or track. FACT!!!!!

who will make irish u23 team??
mccarthy
coghlan
clohissey
pollock
maybe chesser but he aint good at xc
