at least change the colors of the message board.
yellow, gray, black and white?
Pleas make it a little more pleasing on the eyes. Try some stuff out. It wouldn't change the functioning of the board at all, but would make it "friendly"

Don't try to compete with or outdo other sites that are doing things very well -- like videos on Flocasts. And don't start athlete blogs unless you're really sure that the athletes are committed to blog at least weekly. Instead, pick some things you think you can do well, and focus on doing them well. "The Week That Was" is a good idea, and something that you can "own" -- you have enough connections and a high enough profile that you can turn the column into a must-read for everyone in the sport. But you have to spend time on it, take it seriously, and get it out at the same time every week.
As an aside, your comments beside the links you provide on the front page are valuable. Other sites like eliterunning do a great job of unearthing all sorts of running links, but they don't give any indication of whether it's worth the read. Over the years, I've come to trust your judgement -- when you label a link "must read," I've pretty much always agreed. So don't fall into the trap of just linking as much as you can -- instead, choose your links carefully, and continue to give us a sentence or two of context to help us decide whether to click on it.
I agree. I enjoy reading your opinions (like The Week That Was). I think that's what makes the site so popular is that y'all aren't afraid to say what you think.
Free beer.
I visit LR religiously, but completely skip the homepage b/c it's such a mess. I know there is great content, but I simply can't handle the chaotic look and feel of the page. Instead, I go straight to the forums.
have wejo or rojo grab a runner from cornell or somebody at princeton who took some programming courses ----and pay them a few hundred dollars to clean up the home page.

IMO - wrong. compete. This is a business. Flocasts is very popular and has some $ behind them. Squash them b4 they eat your lunch (they are not taking you to dinner, despite what you might think).
If you dont try to take out flocasts, trackshark etc the whole space will be fragmented and not viable or scalable.
If you want to sit around the campfire holding hands singing Kumbaya thats fine. But the result will be the space is not professional, and if a large player decides to move in, they will consume all other market particpants.
These 5 billion Hasay threads that are being bumped out of oblivion are one example why good runners leave this site and want there to be mandatory registration to post...
Another thing to improve on would be a better results section. I would also read the homepage more often if it was cleaned up and updated on a regular basis. As someone else mentioned, the week that was should be updated the same time every week. Say Monday by noon eastern time.

you don't have to read them all. how long does it take you to read the title of a thread and move on to the next one
One of the great mysteries of life. Those that click on threads they don't like or have no interest in, then cry for registration because they feel they have had their time wasted.
more about sprints, and hurdles , we be runners too.
Don't require registration. Merely make it a strong point to hold anonymous posters legally accountable who discredit well known runners, programs and coaches with lies and inneundo.
T-shirts = $3,000/month in the bank for life, easy.
i'd buy a letsrun t-shirt in a heartbeat. something simple.

Naked stuff, like pics from college girls drunk beer DMR
I too don't check the front page. I go directly to the message boards. If there's something interesting it'll be mentioned on tbe boards.
I would also buy letsrun shirts. A bright yellow shirt with letsrun.com on it? I'm there. Mrs. Mtn Dew would hate it, but it would be a fine addition to the wardrobe.
A rule that only lets a user bump 1 month old or older thread per hour. That would stop the kind of asshattery like some guy bumping 25-50 threads about Jordan Hasay over the course of an hour.
spell check for usernames
Ditto on the t-shirt.... don't touch the board , the rest are a drag in comparison.
naked women; that's all.
