eh? Carter negiotiated peace between Israel and Egypt. One of the most significant foreign policy coups in memory.

carter did NOT win the prize for that. he was not even nominated for that.
Here is the reasoning of the committee for giving the award to Gore:
"Indications of changes in the earth's future climate must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and with the precautionary principle uppermost in our minds. Extensive climate changes may alter and threaten the living conditions of much of mankind. They may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states."
Five sentences and they use the word "may" three times and then say we "must" take action. A lot of things might happen, but that doesn't mean that we must act. Only when the possiblity of what might happen seems overwhelming do you act. When a terrorist organization attacks your armed forces, you must act. When that same terrorist organization bombs civilians in an attempt to harm your foreign policy, you must act. When that terrorist organization declares war on you, you must act. clinton/Gore treated terrorism like it was a crime instead of treating like it was an act of war. This led to lawyers calling the shots (or calling off the shots). Gore has done little for peace and the committee has sullied the reputation of the prize by giving it to him.

As an Aussie i find myself being led to believe, that that which i dislike about the US is predominately the fault of the conservative side of your Nation.
This makes me feel better because i have friends from the US who are really good people, yet the surface view the media presents makes Bush look like a puppet on the hand of a lunatic and he is the one running things over your way.
Is peace really so difficult?

Yes it is. When was the last time there was world peace?
Jimmah did well, but Egypt is only one country in the Middle East. Palestine remains occupied today and Islam is presently in the process of extricating the European and American invasion forces. Jimmah has also exposed National Zionism for what it is, a racist, Nazi ethic, patterned after Hitler and Theodor Herzl.
another brilliant post from a factually challenged conservative!Dont let reality bite you in the ass on your way out the door

Apparently you.

So what you're saying is that you never vote, period. Right? I mean, if you're not willing to vote for a hypocrite then that leaves...well...basically no one among politicians.

What's worse, when challenged to prove that he actually bought those phantom carbon credits, Gore refused to comply!

Out where the river broke
The bloodwood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
The time has come to say fairs fair
to pay the rent, now to pay our share
Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From Kintore East to Yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact

Anyone who speaks with absolute certainty about something as complex as climate change clearly has little grasp of the facts and probably has an agenda. Qualifiers like "may", in this case are appropriate given the probability, not certainty, of the stated consequences. When the possible consequences are as significant as "threatening the living conditions of much of mankind", and "introducing large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources", it seems reasonable to conclude that "we 'must' take action".
You say "Only when the possiblity of what might happen seems overwhelming do you act". I'd say you have to consider both the probability of an event and the magnitude of the consequences of that event.

Wow, thirteen responses on a thread with "Al Gore" in the title before the word "hypocrite" first appeared. You guys are losing your once razor-sharp kneejerk reflexes!
What's up, have Limbaugh and company or whoever's the source of your lockstep "talking points" not been beating the Gore drum lately? Maybe with presidential campaigning underway the talk's been diverted to present-day candidates?
Let's just make sure your reflexes aren't totally shot indicating some underlying medical problem. Quick, respond to these phrases:
New York Times
Clinton
France
a sign of the Apocolypse.
Citizen Runner wrote: You say "Only when the possiblity of what might happen seems overwhelming do you act". I'd say you have to consider both the probability of an event and the magnitude of the consequences of that event.
Duh!
To the guy to whom you're responding: if you knew there was a 1 in 3 chance a serial murderer would try to break into your home next month to torture and slowly kill you and your family, I bet you'd consider it pretty necessary to lock the doors, and hell, maybe even stronger measures like doing something about those windows or an alarm system or weaponry to defend yourself.
But why? There's no overwhelming probability. In fact it's downright against the odds!

Yes, good job! I am glad that instead of those hypocrites you voted for someone who flew around telling everyone (until very recently) that global warming doesn't exist, spending trillions of dollars killing people to influence their supply of oil, and THEN hoping into into a private jet and burning millions of gallons of that precious gasoline.
I am not going to listen to messages of conservation or "how to save billions of dollars and millions of lives" if it's coming from someone who believes in air transportation... i am way smarter than that!

Carter was largely applauded and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping to halt the development of nuclear weapons in North Korea. Anyone find that amusing in hindsight?
I wonder if there will be apologies when it becomes clear global warming was a farce and a brief craze and Gore got a prestigious award for being a bloviating fool. No, liberals would rather pretend it didn't exist, 1984 style, kind of like when asked about all the liberal activists in the 1970s wailing about the impending ice age and now they're screaming about global warming. They'll pick a new gloom and doom topic and pretend they never did an about face.
