Hold on a minute? Ok, I'm holding on. I'm waiting for Dean to respond to my question. He blames the press for falsely making him out to be the greatest, yet he doesn't correct them when they do. He's had many chances to do this and each time he falls short and does the same thing: He lets the mythological caption stand or he responds to the fawning interviewer egotistically that he's slept on the run or ordered pizza or run 300 miles straight or some such ah-shucks/Evel Karnevel nonsense.
Am I angry? Yep. I am. We have an American man break the American 1/2-Marathon record and we get nothing--no ESPY award for him, no coverage but a sad byline in the sports section of the local paper located next to the picture of the fat, dopey man proudly holding up his fat fish. We have Deena, an Olympic bronze medalist and the first American woman to go sub 2:20 sitting in front of a non-existant book signing line. (It happened.)
Finally, we have Dean. America knows him, yes they do. They know him because, unlike Hall and Kastor, he's had a plan--a plan not to run a fast marathon or beat someone, rather, a plan to become a famous, narcissistic icon...a plan to sell himself, his book, and his sponsor's drink and NRG bars...a plan to become a sideshow and live the American dream in true P.T. Barnum fashion....a plan to rope stupid cattle into a corral with a teary story and a charitable wink.
You are simply jealous that I am as ripped as a prize fighter and you are not.
